One of my stud dogs only ever managed a slip tie, but his strike rate was 99.9% He only missed to one bitch who came back to my other proven dog next season, and missed again. She took her elsewhere the next time, and again she missed. Clearly the bitch wasn't meant to be a mum.
One good mating (and the slip) should be enough. It's not hit and miss with dogs as it is with humans. If the bitch will allow a mating, and the male is fertile (it helps to be proven), she should be in whelp. However, there are no guarantees, and she may not carry to term - bitches can reabsorb.
Plan on a litter, and wait.
ps By around 5 weeks you'll probably see some thickening of her flanks. By week 7, you should see the puppies moving around. Also, with some experienced stud dogs, once they 'know' they have successfully mated with a bitch, they may not be very interested to do a second mating. Quite possibly it has to do with the scent of the bitch - a recent prog. I watched suggested scenting in the dog plays a HUGE part in how they behave - response. Far greater than we fully realise.
