NO testicles at 9 weeks is fairly uncommon. One undecended is more usual.
Assuming you didn't breed the puppy and perhaps not too experienced at feeling for them, a good vet or an experienced breeder could have a look for you.
Early days to say there's a problem just yet.
I've known them come down up to 10 months on a dog I bred that they later showed? Luckily they did not buy him to show, although he did go on to do very well at Open Show level so it was not a problem in the earlier months.
I would not worry yet as long as they are there. They are very small at 9 weeks so can be missed.

Really depends on the breed, some take longer than others to come down. At 9 weeks I wouldn't be too worried.

I certainly wouldn't be panicking at 9 weeks. And remember that if you keep checking for them they often take them up further.
I remember the vet commenting as she gave a min pin his 8 week check up that it was like looking for 2 grains of rice wrapped in a blanket lol

A quaint way of describing, but really quite apt. :-)

That's what I was going to say and can you blame them :)

Yes, leave him alone back there, for now. I well remember somebody with a 6 month puppy in a puppy class. There was quite a to do about the fact the judge couldn't find-em. 'Well he had them before'...... sure he did and the moment the judge went to check, pulled them up!!
Obviously take your vet's advice in a few months because if they don't make an appearence, they/it needs to be found and removed. Retained testicles can become cancerous.

but there is no rush as that would take years.

Brainless, how long would you leave retained testicles before removing?

I'm not who you asked, but I would wait a year.

Zuma had one that wasn't down, the vet was quite agreeable to my thought of leaving it until he was 2½ - 3 (matured and finished growing for GSD) before doing anything. He had abdominal surgery for blockage at about 18/20mth and the vet 'found it while rummaging round!!!' so rang me and I agreed to removal while he was under and open!
I would be worried if neither were present at that age - especially if I wanted to show him...

there's a difference in them not being there and not being good at finding them.
My friend has a knack of feeling the little peas, but I can't for the life of me find them on a pup that young.
they are really only like Peas, and I can feel that there is something there (by running fingertips along while pup on it's back) but not to differentiate two.

So true Barbara!
Ive seen so many litters where the owner couldn't find the little devils. If they are there... Ill get them!
Not something Ill put on my CV however :-)

Very true! I was amazed when the vet said he could find them on the 10 week puppy I sent to the US, I couldn't feel anything! My friend had a puppy once who pulled his up on the table but let them down on the floor, bit tricky with a show puppy!!

Love it!!!
I am not an expert on finding them but one of our vet nurses is - she has cats so is used to searching for tiny ones....

I have made it my own personal rule that if both testicles aren't there by 8 weeks, then the pup will go as a pet as the assumption on my part will be that both testicles will never be there. I've stuck to that with both dogs and cats (two breeds of each so 4 different breeds) and indeed I have yet NEVER had one that missed one (or once in a kitten, both) testicle at 8 weeks drop it later on. With one puppy we waited until 18 months to neuter, with another until 3 years, still nothing.
I also would not want to breed from an animal that dropped the testicles late as you would only get more of the same.
