my young dog has been throwing up white frothy stuff since 6.30 this am and is not himself as he is very quite and doesnt want to eat
Any ideas what the problem could be?

Personally I would take him to the vet.
If it was a one-off white frothy sick, with no change in behaviour, first thing in the morning, I'd put it down to an empty stomach. But continued vomiting (even if it is white froth and not actual vomit), I'd want investigating. It may be something of nothing, but could also indicate a foreign object lodged somewhere or a blockage or some other medical problem. Best get it checked out.
Rack your brains for anything your dog may have access to chewing up/eating (epsecialy non-edibles such as toys/clothes/sticks etc.)
I'm not trying to alarm you in the slightest, hopefully it is nothing, but much better safe than sorry - get a vet check :)

Please check, right now, whether his stomach is hard and significantly bigger - vomiting white froth can be a symptom of Bloat, with or without GDV (the torsion bit). And this is an emergency situation. Typically the dog will vomit white froth, stand with his back arched and head down, and again with the significantly hard and tympani-like stomach. You have literally minutes to get to a vet if this is going on.
On the other hand, dogs with KC vomit white froth.

Isn't it always the case, one then the other? At least they should get it over with quickly.
My last bout of kennel cough went from one to other slowly and lasted ages.
Hope all is well very soon.
My KCCS had that problem we were advsed to give him a snack before going to bed also a light meal if travelling a long way in the car. Success on a plate !!
THIS IS NOT DEFINITELY KENNEL COUGH,,vet confirmed that
I have seen and had K/C several times and know its symptoms
There is no cough and dog that had it first got much much better after injection
THINK this is some sort of virus going round

One of ours threw up a large amount of white frothy vomit some months ago in the garden, only the once, thought of bloat, but thankfully soon came over & burped repeatedly in my face. Watched him like a hawk & kept running my hands over him every few minutes, came in for a drink, settled down & slept with him that night not seen anything like it or thankfully since.

Welshie...I understood it wasn't KC,
I merely meant any infection moving from one dog to the other in a household of dogs.
Mine just happened to be KC.
I have also experienced bloat.
i havent experience bloat so what are the symptoms for that? how does it affect the dog
Best i know so will know what to look for god forbid ... we ever get it

Anxiety, drooling, arched back, retching up but only froth....tight abdomen.
Next gums go pale but you want to be at the vet at that point.
My little dog ( breed which almost never gets bloat) ate her dinner as usual....went to the garden and unknown to me, ate a fair bit of bird seed the birds had kicked out of a feeder...stomach contents showed this later.
She came in and drank water...quite a bit..unlike her.
She didn't settle, whined, paced about, panted then started retching up foam.
Her abdo was tight so I rang it in and flew to the vet....she nearly died.
Luckily I've had big breeds all my life or the thought of bloat may not have occurred to me.
A true life or death situation.
