Does anyone else have a problem with their dog and itchy paws after a run, everytime we take our springer out off lead they come back and for about an hour or two they charge around scratching with their paws, its taking away the enjoyment of the run. We take them along a river bank and through the woods but have been doing this for a long time so they should be use to the growth by now and there are not any nettles around.
Any ideas on how we can solve this.

I have had problems like this with Thistle ( my lab), but we have never found out what causes it. It was more in the spring and I put it down to nettles growing, but I don't think that they are growing at the moment. The first time it happened I was frantic and thought it was something really serious.

Buy some Hibiscrub from the chemist and dilute with warm water, make up a footbath for when they return home, this will soothe their paws. I know this is a bit of a pain to have to do everytime, but at least they will feel more comfortable, if you have ever suffered from athletes foot, you will know how unbearable the itch is.

There's also some very good allegy soothing creams around that work miracles and I have found Bach flower remedy rescue cream to
be very good as well.
I use it frequently on cuts and scrapes for both the dogs and ourselves.

I used to put it down to nettles, but then found out the farmers round our way had been spraying stuff in the fields (would have thought it was a bit early in the year for this though......)
