Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Good citizen class wins for JW points

Has anyone used champ show wins in a breed specific Good citizen classes for their junior warrant claim?

I had an email from the KC a couple of years ago, saying they could be used, but the awards dept are now unsure and it is possible that the rule has been changed recently.

I'm waiting for the KC to get back to me, but wondered if anyone had any experience of this??

Please note I'm talking about the breed GC class at shows like Boston & Welks, not the stakes class version.

Many thanks.

It is a breed class so should count.

just wrote a letter to K/C as no reply from email i sent 5 weeks ago regarding SH CH entering Good Citizen in breed classes at champ shows to get in the challenge for CC.iT doesnt give much chance to a young dog working its way up the classes or the older dog with no CC,s who with the owner still enjoy competing. As said no problem with SH CH ,s etc competing in the G/C stakes classes but do think the K/C should have a rethink as those who are entering the BREED classes do have limit and open to compete in
Will wait and see if i get a reply

It's really frustrating. I've emailed the KC, spoken to someone on the phone and then in person at a show. No reply to email and the other 2 said they would get back to me, but haven't yet. This is the first dog I've ever got near a JW with, so I have to admit to being a bit overly concerned about it... Lol!

The JW applic form says they include "breed classes at champ shows" (not exact quote) and the GC class was breed specific, so logically it should count.

But then I suppose we all see the result we want as the logical one.... ;-)

They are entitled to enter, both my Good citizen dogs are champions.

The purpose of the class was to give a class at conformation shows to prove that many show dogs are not just pretty faces.

so do you enter them in open breed class as well as good citz or just good citz?

i would also think that AL classes should be judged on conformation as well as all other points NOT JUST GOOD CITZ

That is how Good citizen and the other breed classes are judged.

The only difference in Good citizen class to open is that they have to have a Good citizen qualification.

Both my Good citizen dogs are veterans (haven't bothered to get it for the younger ones) so I rarely enter them in more than one breed class as second entries are now so expensive and I like to ente4r veteran stakes if I'm going to enter more classes.

When they were young I would enter both another breed class and Good Citizen.

Actually at Crufts where second entries are free I have entered my 10 year old in Open, and veteran, but forgot to do Good Citizen, duh!

It is also useful if you have two dogs that can only go in Open to use the Good citizen class, assuming you have got the qualification.
