Does anyone have any ideas for fun games/activites to stimulate my Border Collie's mind? He is nearly six months old. At the moment he loves finding his toys (he knows most of their names), bringing me a certain toy when asked and plenty of fun training (tricks combined with basic training). I would just love some extra ideas.... :D Thanks!

Can't remember if you have any experience of clicker or not but that would be something to make him think and use his brain.
With my Beardie/Borderx I taught him things like going after his ball at different speeds, sent him for his ball and stopped him or turned him away to right or left, different things round the house fetching papers, mail, washing, taking things to different people in the house.

Yes we have been conditioning to the clicker and starting some training with it (despite disruption from ignorant boyfriend who is now enrolled on Jeangenie's training course :D) I will definately try your suggestions. I have tried to get him to get the post before but I can't have been doing it right - any tips?

I would teach him to hold different things including an old letter and when he will hold it until you take it from him move on to getting him to bring it a few steps to you then slightly further. Once he is doing that go with him to door and pickup a letter and get him to hold it then progress as before until he is bringing it from door to kitchen or where ever. Put a command in such as get the post and let him run ahead and just move on from there

Friends tried to teach their lab to bring them the newspaper from the doormat. The first time he tried (he knew what "fetch it" meant) the paper fell apart, but he got a biscuit for bringing what he did. Next time they found he'd learnt too well - he shook the paper apart, and brought them each page separately, demanding a biscuit every time!

Ha ha! The only paper that comes through my door is the awful local one so I might train him to rip it up on purpose!!! :D
