Even on day one, any self-respecting Basset would tend to have his nose down. A good judge should make allowances, especially with the early classes. With the senior ones, Post Grad and up, it would be hoped that the dog might show a degree of training (LOL). Much as I did like to see a hound move on a slack lead, provided I could SEE the front coming towards, at some point.
Outside, forget it - and on the final day, having a male in the ring can be a nightmare, if there has been bitches in season there previously. Which is why I urge people with in-season bitches to stay away please.
