Topic Dog Boards / Showing / cleaning rings between show days at champ shows?
- By Lorripop [gb] Date 16.01.14 10:10 UTC
In between the show days of the champ shows that run over 3 or 4 days do the rings all get a good clean and brush up before the next days worth of dogs?
Was just wondering as we are on sunday at manchester which means loads of dogs have gone before in the ring that may have wee'd or poo'd plus all the bits of treats that get left and i suppose even the sent of bitch that has been shown in season. If you have a nose to floor dog it must be a task and half to keep heads up??

that's why we use bait, :) and no they don't clean the rings, obviously impractical outside, and inside only the obvious would be cleaned up as best it can, usually sawdust sprinkled and swept up by steward or owner of defecating dog.

I use bait but just wondered if they give the indoor rings a good sweep up & the outside ones if dry at the end of each day.

No, not at all.

Unfortunately would that was the case.   Fact is by the final day, the ring is bound to be full of smells which is why we bait.   Even on day one, any self-respecting Basset would tend to have his nose down.   A good judge should make allowances, especially with the early classes.   With the senior ones, Post Grad and up, it would be hoped that the dog might show a degree of training (LOL).   Much as I did like to see a hound move on a slack lead, provided I could SEE the front coming towards, at some point.

Outside, forget it - and on the final day, having a male in the ring can be a nightmare, if there has been bitches in season there previously.    Which is why I urge people with in-season bitches to stay away please.

HTM shows have carpet which is hoovered before show starts and again if any debris is seen. Also hoovered before next day at a 2 day show.
