People truely amaze me in being so guilable and not doubt really stupid.

I am a member of a lab page on FB The majority are really nice but there are a few that you just want to scream at !

The latest is somebodies advice to stop a dog jumping up. She has suggested squirting a dog in the face with a mixture of water and vinegar  it was suggested  by her obedience trainer

I have suggested try spraying acid in her own face and see how harmless it will be , not and go and find a good trainer that doesn't use such dangerous training advice.

It beggars belief, doesn't it?

I know I just don't get how people can be so stupid.

At the puzzle job I had some years back we had to keep reminding ourselves that not everyone had the same accomplishments as us; the company mantra was "Think thick". We all think of ourselves as average, but anyone who'd passed their O-levels was automatically above average, and if you had A-levels you were (back then) in the top 10%. We all think of ourselves as ordinary and average, so it can come as a shock to discover that maybe we aren't!

It also takes a lot of intelligence to act dumb than actually be dumb ! Lol :-D

Ouch!! That's even worse than my friend, she advocates shoving their heads in the water butt to stop bad behaviour!!

I think people should have to pass an intelligence test before being allowed to own a dog. Some of the things you hear are unbelievable :( Poor dog.

A lot of trainers just grow up with this stuff and thinks it's normal, they never think to challenge it :-(  I've been dealing with one for a few years now - the first training appointment of hers I was present for was for my Raine, and she advised doing exactly that with lemon juice in water.  I stepped in and stopped it happening, and once we were on the way home, absolutely let rip at her.  I was furious.  Her answer?  She'd never really thought about it before!  Horrendous :-(

Needless to say that advice and a few other things are *why* Raine is with me - it only took 6 months for an already stressed dog to start going for her owners and to date, 3 years of ongoing rehab to get her over the handling of that first year.  The trainer hasn't used that technique since that day though, she is well aware of what she did wrong and why Rai is the way she is, and these days she is a much better trainer - still a long way to go mind you, but she's ditched basically everything she used to do and is a positive trainer now.  She's just a bit lacking in technique and body language skills but the dogs she works with are much happier for it.

Sometimes they just need to have their eyes opened - of course some won't listen but some just don't realise the problems with their methods or that there are better ways.  When I challenged the above woman about 'teaching' dogs to sit by pushing their bums to the ground (which is why Rai would now snap at anyone who tried to handle her back end), she said she had no idea there was another way to do it!

Yep all that sounds familiar Nikita together with alpha rolls picking dog up by scruff to tell it off. My first shep ws put off dumbells for life by having one rammed in her mouth and then her mouth held shut from underneath to make her hold it. Oh yes she was my first and I knew nothing better so I openly admit I have done those things.
Its not difficult to find people who still train like that,

Mind I could have done anything to Brooke this afternoon when she  took my lunch off my fork and swallowed it ! Th elunch I mean

You need to set her a place at the table as she wouldn't have the opportunity to do it ;-) lol
- By furriefriends Date 18.01.14 14:25 UTC
Gosh of course now why didn't I think of that. :)
YOU can picture me with a gsd a flat coat and a high chair with a Pomeranian sitting in it because she wont be able to reach This mornings haul was after seeing complete box of tampons scattered around the floor which made me suspicious ( she doesn't use them !) all because she had found a muesli bar  that I had forgotten in my bag which was on the floor ! Its only food she goes for . Sorry I have hi jacked the thread

Sounds like Bog !

We spent a few nights last winter at our local pub because of the boiler packing up. . We left the girls in the room at breakfast as we didn't trust him alone in a strange room.He say very well at the table until I put a piece of toast on a side plate.
I swear I saw his lips creep over as he slowly lifted the piece of twist and scoffed it !
The rest if the guests thought it was hilarious !
- By furriefriends Date 18.01.14 17:34 UTC
I did think that given the latest Bog antics
- By LJS Date 19.01.14 06:38 UTC
Yes I think the combination of Bog and Brooke together = big trouble !!
- By furriefriends Date 20.01.14 11:07 UTC
