Whether this is just in my main breed or others have noticed this too in their breeds, but right now there is only one litter in my breed advertised in Champdogs, but sadly any number on another well-known general dog sale website. One I've never recommended anybody use it has to be said because of who is on there (quality - or lack thereof). I hate it that the other website has no pedigrees listed.
What do you think is going on?

Hopefully it's because of the high standards demanded here.
I very seldom have any pups for the open market but had cause to sell just one puppy very recently on this site.
I had 40+ enquiries for him.

Champdogs is the only place I advertise & I am still getting enquiries 9 months after selling my last puppy. I would always recommend advertising on here above any other dodgy sites(that could sound like this is a dodgy site..it isnt). There is nearly always at least 10 litters, of my breed advertised at an one time.
Only two litters of my breed on here (there used to be a long list of litters), unfortunately neither of which I would recommend.
Established breeders have pups booked and use a breed site to home the remaining one left and pet people seem to know about it so they have no problems.

Don't need to.
My breed has few puppies available, but also equally few enquiries in any short period, so litter advertising, especially if you have to pay for it is not financially viable.

CD along with the KC ABS are the only two places I get decent enquiries from, other than my own website which can be a real mix of enquiries, and so people get in touch without there being any pups available. The best buyers tend to be those prepared to wait and they will see me listed at CD and don't need to wait until there are any pups advertised. I have a litter due and unless I get a very uneven mix of sexes or a bigger litter than we think, all my pups were sold long before the bitch was even mated, so I won't be advertising them on CD -but several of the waiting buyers
did come to me via CD.

In one of my breeds if someone elbow scores then they won't accept litters from either parents with a score of 2 or more, however non elbow tested dogs can still be allowed on, so now a lot have said what incentive is there to elbow score if CD don't allow specific scores yet allow dogs not even scored as parents of litters being advertised.. I see their point but then I wouldn't breed from a dog with an elbow score of 2, so this doesn't worry me..
>I won't be advertising them on CD -but several of the waiting buyers did come to me via CD.
ditto, I notice referrals to my own website often come via CD breeder listing.

I announced that I had a litter due on Champdogs website but already had most of the litter booked before they were born. Interestingly the worst enquiries I had were through the KC website (got free listing due to ABS) when pups were registered and all sold.
This is the only place to advertise. I never ever list on the KC site along with all the puppy farms, etc
Even they are AKB its a total joke. Puppy farms the kc register as many pups from them as they can. I know a breeder who is adding a paper puppy to most of her litters, she is AKB too.
Champdogs is the best site, with all the health checks they do, they are totally professional,All my pups are booked under 2 weeks of the advert showing. My other breed, I have only ever seen one litter for sale, so when I put mine up soon, it will be intresting to see what happens.

Sad to say I only got a few enquires from here (all booked) one of the emails I had was,"have you got a puppy please"nothing else just that lol. The rest however were all well informed enquires and I was able to put them in touch with other breeders.
I've had a lot of those too Boody. I now just delete them. In the past I would reply with a lengthy email detailing the issues with the breed, required health tests and what the puppy buyer should be looking for in a breeder. Now realise that advice to such people will be ignored . If they cannot be a...d to compose a reasonable email enquiry they will not be the type of buyer I would wish to have one of my puppies. They almost certainly will be of the 'puppy now, local and cheap ' brigade. At least your enquiry asked 'please'. Recent ones to me have been:
'Have you got any bitches left'
'Do you deliver ?
'How much ?'
I could go on.
CD moderators have said on numerous occasions that visitors to the site are sufficiently selective/well informed to differentiate between the good and the bad on site just by looking at the health tests recorded. Okay, I'm only just learning how to upload but my dogs have all the required tests clearly listed on my page. Those that have to be uploaded have been done but yet to be uploaded. But, there are many breeders advertising on CD who haven't even done the minimum required tests and they clearly have no problem selling their puppies on CD.

The best and most interesting litters in our breed are never really advertised on here as the puppies are normally all sold by the time they are born. Unless you were in the breed you probably wouldn't know about those litters, in turn it tends to be at times more pet bred puppies for our breed on the site bar a few exceptions.
In regards to the elbow scoring, there were a few dogs on this site advertised at stud that had failed the hip scoring miserably, I mean double or even triple the breed average. They have only recently been taken off the site but had been listed at stud and been listed as sires on litters for at least a year.

Are there any requirements, such as health checks before members can advertise their litters on CD.
Bemused a while ago to see someone listed advertising on another site, their dogs (unproven) for stud at over £500 with the added comment of 'no mixed breeds'!
