I didn't know the answer as I always do it way before six months of age so thought I would ask champdogs members! My friend has bought in a pup and wants to add her own affix which has only just been granted, however the pup is over 6 months so she wants to know what does she put on the entry form whilst waiting for the paperwork to be returned? I know you can't technically use the changed name before it has been granted but as you enter shows so far in advance will it matter that the name is the original version (without her affix) by the time she actually exhibits at the show, especially if she gets a win that would mean a stud book number etc?

Your friend should wait as the Kennel name has to appear in the Gazette & then folk can object upto 4 weeks of the KG publication date.

You can apply to have a kennel name added to a dog up to a month after a stud book number has been awarded so there's no rush.

If the change has been applied for then your supposed to put NAF after the name that it will be, on entry forms, (Name Applied For).

It's easiest to do this at the same time as transferring the ownership on a pup brought in.

The Kennel Club journal online, as the Gazette is no more. :)

I know it has ceased to be delivered(I did not renew my subscription) but understood that it can be viewed online. I dont see how one can object to Kennel names(affix) that are to alike your own otherwise???

It's no longer the Kennel Gazette, it is the KC Journal and the exact same rules apply, see page 21:

Ok thanks I will pass that on - her kennel name was granted some time ago but for some reason she didn't get around to adding to her new bitches name before she was old enough to show, so will just enter using the old name or adding NAF in the mean time.

If the Affix/Kennel name has been already granted then she simply uses the new name with it added and NAF at the end (as long as she has sent off for it) when she makes entries.

If you want to show before all the paperwork has caught up you enter with NAF or TAF added (name applied for, or transfer applied for).

Otherwise talk to the Registration Department with the KC, once they get back to work!!?

KC Journal should take you to the Jan 2-14 issue
