For various reasons including my barking problem I have made the very hard decision to rehome one of my dogs. I have an experienced home lined up for him and I have no doubt that this person would offer him an excellent life. However I have just found out she feeds her dogs Wagg working dog food. I looked it up and it seems to me to be a very cheap poor quality food. I currently feed raw and have always been very careful about what I feed my dogs. Because of this I am now getting cold feet about the rehoming.
Does anyone have any opinions on this Wagg food? maybe it is not as bad as I think. How will a dog who has been fed a raw diet adapt to dry food? my dogs do eat some kibble but I give them Applaws which is cereal free. Maybe I am just being too fussy as this is a very good home. I dont really need advice on rehoming it is thoughts on the food I am looking for. thanks
I don't feed it but, it is all one colour and therefore better than Bakers, I bought some treats from a shop on my way out for a walk, all they had was wagg, the dogs loved them and I saw no ill effects I know treats is not the same but it never seemed to make them daft or anything.
You must have a whole list of reasons why this is a good home to be prepared to rehome him there. Presumably they have/had other dogs who were healthy and well looked after. And to your (experienced) eye looked well enough that you would trust them with your own dog. So presumably Wagg can't be doing that much harm. And in the long run if you stay close with the person it may be that you can educate them in the raw feeding thing.
Personally I feed kibble for a number of reasons but I find often people who feed raw are a bit like people who have stopped smoking and become very keen to tell everyone how much better this is. Not denying that it is certainly more natural and seems to be great for teeth and certainly not meaning that to sound like I am having a dig but it often gives me a little smile when a doggy person comments on how well my dogs look and their coats etc and asks if I feed raw.

I think if the decision is between an excellent home that feeds Wagg, and a possibly not so good home (or no home) that feeds raw, it's a bit of a no-brainer, isn't it? No home (other than yours - and that's not a dig, it's how I feel about the home I provide for my dogs!) is going to be perfect, so compromises will have to be made.
I got several special offer £1 bags of Waggs at Crufts once and I used it a basic 'pocket treats' i.e. I grabbed a handful every time we went for walks. It wasn't terrible by any means
We've recently allowed my oldest dog to go and live with my parents in law (my f-i-l has dementia and my m-i-l needed an outlet) and I've had to gradually let go of my food controlling habits. I too feed raw and I'm really careful about the kibble I allow my dogs to eat BUT my whiskery boy is having a whale of time, is completely adored, has taken over the sofa and sleeps with them at night. He's very very settled and they dote on him, he's also doing a really important home help job. If they feed treats I disapprove of and occasionally buy him the wrong sort of food then it doesn't seem to bother him as much as it bothers me!
I'd say that if you've found a good home then the food they feed is secondary. By all means do try and educate them, and I would wean him off raw food slowly, but perhaps its not as bad as you first fear. My dogs are raw fed but can cope with kibble very easily when the need arises. I still send food my to my parents in law but they never ask for more so I'm sure they supplement and that much of his raw food is still in their freezer!
thanks for the reassuring replies. yes bar the food issue it is a wonderful home. I had assumed that someone who cares so much about her dogs would feed a quality food even if not raw. I have no experience of Wagg. Am imagining my boy confused by the change in home surroundings and then given food like nothing he has had in his life before. I know rehoming him is the right decision but I am finding it hard

I would suggest you rehome him with a bag of his usual kibble and some simple easy to follow suggestions about topping it with raw to ease the transition. I can completely understand your feelings of guilt and anxiety about his wellbeing, even when you know you are doing the right thing, and the food is just one thing to worry about...
Explain to his new carers that a sudden change in food might cause stomach upset and hopefully they'll take it on board. However it does make sense for them to feed all the dogs on the same food as quickly as possible - dogs are always more accepting of each other when they smell the same and food will help :)
I am now feeding my dogs wagg after trialling several other, including the higher end varietys. They are both doing extremely well on it.
I know each dog is different but both for me, its a good food. Their coats are looking great and finally freds digestive problems have settled down.
If your biggest concern is what the dog will be fed on then I dont think you have much to worry about :-) however, if they are a good owner and feel the dog isnt doing well on that food im sure they would try something else to find a good food match. The same as I did and ended up with wagg :-)
