Hi I'm new to this Site
I'd been in touch with a breeder about buying a shih tzu puppy. the puppy was born 4 days ago and the breeder has told me this is the only pup in the litter.
Is this normal?
Will it affect the puppy?
Just after general advice

Why would it affect the puppy?  Perfectly normal for toy breeds to carry one puppy.  In my toy breed I've had singletons with no problems.

That's great to hear I just had never heard of it before so found it unusual it doesn't seem to be mentioned in any puppy books, the breeder did reassure me that it was perfectly normal and she had had several single puppy litters before but just wanted to make sure thanks for your help

And just wondered if not having brothers and sisters to play with would affect development

I have a singleton Cavalier I bred myself, she isn't quite as bold as my other dogs, but with proper socialisation and most importantly puppy classes she isn't much worried by most things. :-)
