One of my girls had a litter of pups last dec and has not had a season since. She was meant to go to stud approx oct but the stud i planned to use is about to retire and he is the last of the line im desperate to use.The stud owner was meant to have him neutered 6 months ago but agreed to wait until my girl had paid a visit but there is no sign of it all and its now 13 months since the last one.she is going to wait another month or so then get him neutered.I have made an appointment with my vet to get her thoroughly checked but would like to hear from others this has perhaps happened to and is there anything a vet can give to bring on a season? If it werent for the stud im so desperate to use getting neutered i would just wait.

I usually find entering a show you really want to go to, or planning a holiday, does the trick! :-p

This would be a back to back (successive season mating anyway so just as well she hasn't come in yet as at least she will have gone over a year between litters.

Did you not consider this before having the litter last year, that this dog would be getting on a bit and could have used him first?

I often find my girls will be late coming in season fi they have had a litter by 4 - 8 weeks, than if they had not.

Of course her body may not be yet ready for another season, and your only option really is to wait..

No it would not have been back to back, her last litter was born dec last year so her season for that litter was oct.She has until now had very regular 6 monthly seasons,i would never ever even consider a back to back mating. There was a reason i could not use that particular stud last year but that is personal and not the reason i came on to get advice, just about her season which she has not had yet,in that space of time she should have had 2 seasons.she is now very swollen, scent marking like she does when in season, humping the other dogs like she does in season but no bleeding, very confused!

Sounds just like a silent season to me.  I've experienced seasons with bitches not actually bleeding, yet the vulva was very swollen.  I understand that a bitch can conceive, but not as likely.

If she still has not had a season since her last litter it would still be a back to back breeding even though in this case  a year has gone by.

Though this I would find is acceptable, with such a long gap between.  Obvioulsy her body is telling you she needed the extra time.

Anyway if she is showing all the other signs of a season I'd get progesterone testing, to check whether she is ovulating, or maybe just building up to a season with all the swelling.  Generally bitches are ready fro mating once the swelling subsides somewhat.

Now im very confused. She is swollen just like when she is well and truly in season and today she is flagging for the other girls, something she only does when she is at her fertile stage but no bleeding, only a clear fluid when i dab tissue on,any advice what to do greatly appreciated because i have to travel to the studs, not a problem having to leave at the last minute though

Take her to your vet and get a progesterone test.  The you have an accurate diagnosis. Not guess work from an internet forum.

Agree,  about getting progesterone ASAP.  I generally find mine will flag and allow their fellow bitches to 'hump' a couple of days before they would allow a male dog to.
