The Mail online is carrying a story about a litter of pups, a cross between a Rottie and a Westie. Pleased to say the father, somehow, was the Westie. They are being called Wotties, God knows what they will both look like and behave like.

Just to add as I saw this in the news too the mating was accidental they did not know anything about it until she was giving birth.  So not a deliberate cross and I think the "Wotties" is more of a joke than anything.

Never suggested it was deliberate, just thought I would share this tale of yet another accidental mating. No need to get defensive unless it was you off course!!!

Nothing to do with me I was just adding a bit more to what you had said already for the benefit of anyone who has not seen the story.  I would say they look rather sweet at the moment but they are puppies and sweet is what pups do best

I thought the brindle colouration was interesting and unexpected. I know nothing about inherited colours in dog breeds, but I had thought they would look more like the rottie with the tan points.

In that sense they reminded me of my own accidental crossbreeds (who would not have existed had Alizin been around 11 ½ years ago!) Golden Retriever father and Malinois mother (Fawn with black mask.) 5 black pups, 4 Brindles. Both that stayed with me are brindle.

What I didn't like about the article was the fact the dog owners simply assumed a small dog would not be able to mate a large one. Of course they can! But at least yes, it was an accident and the owners are quoted as saying the dog is being neutered now.

I am a cynic. Litter was in the summer and dogs not neutered yet, so lets hope this publicity doesn't bring along another litter ...

Accidental yes but pure stupidity and ignorance . Feeding horlicks to make the puppies sleep ? Just pure stupid

I agree LJS, silly woman also quoted as saying she started screaming when the dog started to give birth !.
She also fed them on Weetabix and scrambled egg when the bitch wouldn't suckle them.

Why something like this should make the news is beyond me.... ??? Mind boggles at the cross let alone how this is new worthy for any newspaper!!

She had a un nuetered dog and bitch but knew nothing of the pregnancy until the pups arrived. The fed weetabix and horlicks?!

I know the article was tongue in cheek but I worry that the publicity will encourage her to do it again intentially yet she really has jo clue!!
