Topic Dog Boards / General / Christmas presents for dogs

I was just wondering what people would suggest for presents. I would like to try something new but don't want to waste money.
I was going to try Smart Bones but they seem expensive. Are they worth the money and are they safe ?
My dog likes a soft type toy but rips them to pieces in no time. Has anyone found any truly indestructible toys ?
Looking forward to discovering something new !

Mine are getting a Jolly Ball this year - I've seen them and heard of a dogs which like them, but unsure whether mine would. Well, there was one at our agility lesson the other week, and it was an instant hit.

Bought something in PAH a few weeks ago called the InterBall, a big yellow ball with two handles on it. It's very tough and both dogs love it. There is also the Jolly Egg ball, which is said to be reasonably indestructible.

If you live near a countrywide they have a half price offer on some dog toys

I got this for Bog and it is quite large so should keep him amused !

Highly recommend these dog toys, my girls is still alive and kicking after two years and many times in the washing machine, it has had many games of tuggie with other family dogs and is with her most of the time. 2 years ago I bought 20 of them for all the family dogs only two were destroyed the rest are still going, I'll never buy anything else, every other toy is in the bin after a few months, this one goes on and on, and on and she has never got fed up with it. :-D

LOL - they don't last in this house. The last one we had instantly had its legs chewed off (presumably to stop it running away) and was shredded into a thousand tiny pieces. I can't say the dogs didn't enjoy the toy, but I'd hoped it would last longer than 48 hours.

:-D  How funny, looking at your dogs, coincidentally the only two breeds to destroy it were one of the GSD's and the Akita, the other breeds they've lasted with even with some heavy tugging. (That's a good way of catching prey, ripping its legs off first :-D :-D Bless.)

No toy is truly indestructible but I've found with my girl tuffys grade ten toys realy good, and one year at crufts I brought a gonuts I got the black rubber ring as they said it was the strongest one they do. They also replace it for free (u pay the postage) if your dog gets down to the red core. She loves it and no bits missing yet. Also when getting toys go for a size bigger than your dog needs, mine destroys them if she can get her back teeth on them so by getting a bigger size she can't do that.

This year Fay is getting one of the bowls that slows there eating. I get her those smart bones, she loves them and there ment to be safe as there's no rawhide and there soft unlike real bones. She doesn't get them often due to the price.

You could maby try a diffrent chew, if you havent tryed things like rabbit ears, lamb ears, venison ears, duck wings ext.

The best toy for Bramble is the wrapping paper from our presents :) We never buy the dogs toys, although our children usually buy them something which just ends up in their toy box after Christmas Day. Tara only likes her chimpanzee that she has had for 10 1/2 years and Bramble really only likes tennis balls :)

Zuma rips/shreds the fabric soft toys and chews pieces out of the plastic squeekies but he has a bunch of VERY soft lightweight LATEX squeeky balls that he loves, they have silly faces on them and came from the pet stall on the local market. Some of them have lasted about 2 YEARS!!! . Its quite funny as he decides which colour is favourite then ignores the others while he hunts to find the green/blue/yellow one that is todays 'in' thing.
Mine cost £1 but these are the ones

They seem to last as they are too soft for him to get a proper grip on to pull/chew!!
He has a couple of jolly-balls but I had to cut the handles off as he started removing them himself  He also has a couple of pup-trax (??) mini car tyres made from recycled car tyre rubber but not that interesting so they only get occasional interest and some kong toys

The ONLY toys I have found that will last at least a few weeks with my Penny are Nylabones. Anything else can be shredded in seconds. (That includes furniture!) Oh and black Kongs, but only black ones -even red ones were chewed to pieces. But she refers Nylabones to Kongs, unless the Kongs are stuffed, that is. :)

Just chews here.  Toys are no longer a good option since Phoebe arrived, she just gets so stressed if everyone else is playing with new stuff and River ends up trying to bully them off the others or bully the others *with* the toys (she pushes them with one until they play tug, then growls her @rse off at them for daring to play).  And then Rai starts bullying her, and this year I imagine Willow would be an absolute nightmare all round so we're just steering clear!

I was just going to start this thread myself as my sister has bought Nando his own stocking to hang on the fireplace!

The best ever toy I've bought is the Kong Bounzer. Nando loved it, had it for months until he lost it in a river and was too much of a wimp to go and get it himself!! I found it great for a very toy possessive dog that I walk, she couldn't keep hold of the you for too long and had to drop it for me to make it bounce again.

They're great for walks as they have a handle and bounce erratically. The more they get punctured the quicker they re-inflate too, so a really good toy all-in-all.

My dogs both love shredding the paper and will  help to unwrap our presents faster just so they can get to the fresh piece of unshredded paper faster.
However, they will still get their own presents....new beds, treats and toys. Will also do them a 'special dinner' too

Nando had venison for Christmas dinner last year... not sure how I'll top that really!
