Has anyone frozen semen from an 11 year old dog?

Have you had success using it?

Did you test semen prior to freezing?

Any info relating to this sort of thing would be helpful to my decision. Thanks.

Yes I have frozen semen from dogs that was taken at 10 and 11 years of age .The semen is always checked before it is frozen and immediately after freezing. It is only approved for storage if it passes strict tests.
I have successfully used frozen semen in these circumstances

Monica Von Heimendahl did point out at a recent seminar that even though you may get a sample good enough to store that in her experience older dogs semen was of much lower quality once defrosted (forget the technical term), and that you really need to store from young dogs at two to three years old.  If subsequently the dog does not live up to earlier promise, pass all health tests etc, it can be discarded.

I think the Kennel Club should look at providing a storage facility for breeders, as a valuable resource for the future, like the seed bank, so should a breed go awry it can go back to an earlier time.

I think that's a good idea re storage for the future Barbara, as a safety net.

Thanks both for your opinions.
