Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Stud Dog Contract

I have had inquiries to use my boy at stud and have never done this before.

Does anybody have an example stud contract they wouldn't mind sharing? Or things that I should be aware of to put in? Or details of things you wish you'd sorted out before the mating? Or anything else that will guide me in the right direction?

Thanks

Have you read the above ?

It's in the FAQ section.

The KC has a guide to drafting a stud dog contract here http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/media/325300/guide_to_stud_dog_contract_final.pdf

Yes Dill I've read all that thank you.

Thanks Jay15, that's what I needed.

Does anyone have anything to add to that?

Thanks

dancer, it might be as well to check with your own boy's breeder first--different circumstances may apply to your breed, and while I have no problem with sharing the contract I have drawn up it may be entirely unsuitable for you.

Having read of people having problems with complicated conditions re breeding contracts,  perhaps it would be wise to keep things as simple as possible ;)   that way there's less to go wrong :-)

One consideration, in our breed, many breeders insist on seeing the results of all health/DNA testing and won't allow their dog to serve bitches whose health/DNA tests are not perfect.   It may help to discuss this with your boy's breeder and/or others in the breed whom you respect :-)

I bred my boy, he is from my first litter. Imported my bitch for new bloodlines and used foreign stud to follow this on.

I have already turned down three inquiries as bitches not right for him (health reasons mainly - the bitches). I just want to make sure I get it right as have never let any of my boys be used before.

This latest bitch could be a good match for him, I have researched the pedigrees and health (and health tests etc) as much as possible, and they compliment each other well.

I just don't want to get in to a situation where something is not agreed upon in advance and it causes a problem. I guess you could say I'm planning ahead for what may occur in approximately 6 months time.

Thanks for your suggestions though, please keep them coming :)
