Topic Dog Boards / Health / Red spidery lines in cataract eye?
- By dollface Date 10.11.13 14:31 UTC
My Boston Junior has severe cataracts in his eye (he only has one lost his other one due to a miss hap when he was 4 yrs old with our bigger dog at the time over a toy).

I have noticed red spidery lines in his eye- his eye is all blue except for these red spidery lines. Wish I could post pics would def make it easier for explaining.
Any idea what this is? Sometimes I have noticed it watery & squinting but that's usually after he walked into the couch or something poor puppy :(

We did have him at the vet due to his eye turning all blue & I was worried Glaucoma & she did tests & said pressure was great and he has severe cataracts.
All was good. She also said I'll no when it's time he will let me no :(

I no when he's in pain cause with his other eye (when we were trying to save it) he shook, never ate, followed me every where and constant licking & Sometimes whimpered.
He has not done any of this as of yet actually he still wants to go for walks, goes into the kitchen at feeding time he loves his food, & always likes his cuddles with me on the
couch when I sit down. His attitude has not changed at all, he's still very happy with himself.
Now Moose is in heat so he's really loving her at the moment lol
Just that when I do bring him in I no I will be saying good bye to him cause now at almost 14 yrs of age come end of February I will not be doing any surgery on him now.

Any Idea's & what to watch for with his eye? I do not want him to be in any pain.

I no when Tiva had glaucoma we tried to save but in the end removed the eye- then the other eye got it & she did a lot of paw licking & very restless :( plus she started
to pee on her bedding so I no she was in pain.

Thanks :-)

What does the vet say about the red spidery lines?

The only times I have seen veins appear on the surface of an eye is when there has been an injury, such as an ulcer or rupture, and it is starting to heal. Therefore those red veins have always been good news. But eyes isn't something to mess about with and I don't KNOW if there could be other reasons, and you DO need to go to the vet -why would it mean putting to sleep? It's up to you to decide when the day has come, not the vet. No need for it to mean surgery either -and no, I wouldn't go for surgery either if it was my dog. You can still end up with minor treatable ailments or more major ones that can be effectively controlled if not cured.

He's still happy with himself- his over all attitude has not changed at all. I am thinking its from when he has walked into things :-(
The vet just to keep an eye on him
