I have my first entire male as an adult (we did have them growing up but i wasn't the trainer/primary owner) and since I have had my own dogs I have only had spayed/neutered dogs. My boy is 18 months and shows no great interest in females and does not attempt to 'posture' much or overact to other males, entire or otherwise. I am NOT complaining at all but just wondering is this usual as i read a lot of threads to the contrary? He went through a stage of irritating my 10 year old neutered dog when he wanted the bed he was on but a firm no and back to his own bed command stopped it. He would not try this with my 4 year old female interestingly! :)

I think that this depends upon the breed and personality of the dog.

All of my males, I have left intact and although they like to sniff the behinds of the girls, it never goes any further than this.

My last boy, who I lost this year was very confident and calm, he liked to establish that girls were girls but that was a far as it went and he didn't ever posture or start any problems with other dogs, although if they started on him, then a different matter, he could and would defend himself but he was certainly no trouble maker.

He also wouldn't confront my female, or anybody else's female for that matter lol. It was just unnecessary and too much effort in his mind.

Currently have a 6 month old boy and I will not neuter him unless there is a medical need. A friend of mine has neutered dogs that are always picked on by other dogs when out on walks and her dogs are very defensive as they are probably fed up with being targets for unpleasant behaviour.

My neutered boy and girl posture all the time and flirt with each other all the time !

The only thing he takes anything further with is a stuffed Gorilla and Betty lie and looks on with a I am glad that is not me look !

I wouldnt say its unusual at all...all of our dogs apart from 1 have been male, some neutered some entire, and apart from the youngest one, none have shown much interest in girls!! My lab, now 10 and neutered, lived with our entire bitch when he was younger...obviously separated during her seasons, but he made no fuss whatsoever and didn't even really sniff around the garden after she had been there!! He has never sniffed dogs when out and about...I guess it depends on the dogs character?? :D

Perfectly normal for sighthounds, and the reason that you can have several sighthound males together when that wouldn't work with some other breeds.

I have 2 males and 2 females. Both males and one female are entire, the other bitch was spayed a few years ago. My old male (11 years old) is very interested in the entire bitch. I can't remember what he was like when he was younger, but I would send him away when his mother was in season. My entire bitch is in full flow at the moment (great fun - not) and this is the first time my younger male has shown an interest. He was 2 year old in September. Up to this season he didn't bat an eyelid, so to speak. I don't know if it was because my old male was the boss (and still is, I think ;-) ) and so he knew to leave well alone, or if he just hadn't fully matured. I've not had any arguments between them but they are both  interested, though the younger one is more fascinated with the neutered bitch :-) I just love watching the interaction, though I do have to watch closely and no, I don't leave them alone for a minute. Not unless they are all caged and there is a nice distance between them.

My 4.5 year old Basset stud doesn't give a hoot for love or flirting with any man or lady unless a bitch in season is around. But that's probably because he would hate to use any energy unless it was really important :)
