Can anyone tell me if they have used medication for this problem in the male dog, what was prescribed and did it work, were there any side effects? Many thanks.

Medication only work for bitches, not dogs. I had an incontinent dog for years so simply used bellybands -but as he was a Cavalier that was easy, don't know how we'd have coped with a larger breed.

Propalin is worth a try; the datasheet says it's only for bitches but I've known it to be used with apparent success in a male.

Thanks both, I knew it was not usually in dogs but wondered if there was anything that relaxed the bladder to help improve the condition. Never had a problem with a male before apart from the odd small leak but this one seems unaware and it can occur even when he has just been out for a pee.

My elderly westie on propalin and it works, though at the minute he has been poorly and now won't eat so he hasn't had it for a few days. The vet did say it might not work but it did for my dog.

Thanks you will ask my vet for propalin and hope it works for my boy.

This is why I love CD.  Even when you are not asking a question, someone else's reply is often very helpful.  I didn't know that Propalin may help males.  I love this site!  :-)
