My 12 year old Shih Tzu has a skin tag on his head, and the top keeps getting knocked off so I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow. Has anyone come across anything like this before?
He has a skin tag on his tail too but it causes no problems. A vet looked at that one a couple of years ago.

I had a couple of warts removed from an elderly spaniel (they were near her eye and she was being anaesthetised for something else already). All went without a hitch and she recovered v quickly.
I was thinking it might need taking off but I wanted to avoid an operation, even if it is only a small one. He has a heart murmur so I want to avoid anesthetic, though the murmur is only a low level. Looks like it has to go now though.

My vet took one off one of mine when she was under for something else, I think she had one stitch in it and it healed within a few days.
I didn't ask for it to be taken off, the vet just did it because it was annoying her ! .
I have tied dental floss around my dogs skin tags/warts and they drop off after about five days. I have a ten year old lab here with a grade 2 heart murmur and have just had one drop off her after being tied...like you I wouldn't want the GA.
As a groomer, I see many older dogs with skin tags.
Similar to bucksmum, with my own dogs, I've tied thread tightly around a tag and its fallen off within weeks, essentially it cuts off blood supply to the tag.
He's staying at the vets overnight to get the skin tag off. They're going to freeze it, and maybe give him a bit of sedative so he won't get full anesthetic.
He got home today and has to go back in about 10 days to get the stitches out
