Has anyone had a dog/s with folliculitus? If so what was the cause and what was the treatment and did it work?

Hi Janet,

Can you give us a bit more info  e.g. the symptoms, where about on the body etc Thanks

Three different types of spots;
1. crusty patches that can be pushed off the skin leaving a bare patch.
2.A spot that goes leaving a black patch underneath and the skin peels round it a bit like sunburn without the red.
3. Raised spots on the head and nose that when pushed with a finger come away in tiny little clusters of hair with a hair follicule attached.
All this at once, no itching or scratching and the hair grows back. The spots are dry and there has never been a wet patch.
Mostly on the back legs around the tail, chest and nose/chin.
Antibiotics don't seem to work nor do steroids. Antibacterial/fungicidel shampoos don't seem to work either.

First had it when he was two, went away and came back this spring, he is now 6 years old.

Thanks for that info Janet. Has your vet prescribed a specific antibiotic Norodine?   and also EfaVet 660 evening primrose oil capsules?

I ask because I have a friend whose setter has had problems for over 2 years now and has just been prescribed that particular antibiotic and the Evening Primrose Oil. She had been prescribed  all sorts of tablets/steroids  and shampoos with no  improvement but these seem to be working.  The first 3 weeks were difficult as he kept being sick but she doesn't give them all at the same time now and he is no longer being sick.

Please let us know how you get on.
