Topic Dog Boards / General / Dog bed suitable for outdoors?
- By Goldmali Date 30.10.13 11:27 UTC
Can anyone recommend me a dog bed suitable to stay outdoors all year round? I don't know what they are called! Raised, on legs, with nylon mesh so that rain will not puddle on it but go through, and hence the bed can stay dry (ish) in all weathers or at least dry quickly. I need something in the kennel run for my only dog that is kennelled, as when it isn't raining he likes to sleep outside in his run in one particular corner, but there is gravel there and it looks SO uncomfortable that I would like to get a bed that can stay in that corner. He's a big boy so it needs to be pretty big. :)

Found them, is this what you want, they do solid or mesh covers

I wanted to get one but banned from getting more beds, apparently 7 beds for one dog is too many.

Kuranda Dog Bed?

You can make these.  Lots of instructions on the internet.  Might be worthwhile trying one out first if you can manage to do that.  Some dogs don't like them and I find they can be awfully tippy.  Outside I guess you could spike it into the ground to stabilize it.

I've got a Coolaroo dog bed for my Aussie who likes to be out in all weathers:

The other option is to get an old wooden pallet to raise him off the floor then just add a standard waterproof bed like a Tuffie or similar

I use the coolaroo bed for Nando indoors, but I am thinking of buying him a newer softer bed and using the coolaroo outdoors. The only problem I have with is, is that it needs tightening quite often.

My old Akita LOVED sleeping on the gravel.  He had the choice of sleeping on slab, grass, indoors(where their is dog vetbeds) or the sofa but he would take himself away out to the fresh air and curl in a ball on the gravel! And it's big chips too, not pea gravel.  They just like what they like sometimes.hehe

LOL Cracar, wouldn't surprise me if my Z is the same -at least when I get him a raised bed I know he has every choice. :)

We've had a one from Hub Int for over 20 years, it sits on the patio, the dogs adore it. We're on our 2nd cover which for the age of the bed is pretty good, it's used every day. We got the settee, I think they call it a lounger (with back and arms) but you can get without the back and arms, just the bottom. The cover is a nylon mesh so the rain, snow etc just goes through. We got ours from a Ch. show and when the first cover was damaged by a Boxer!! I phoned, ordered another and also the anti-chew strips for the back and arms. It is fab and would recommend to everyone. I see some copies nowadays but have metal legs, the Hub lounger is plastic, therefore won't rust etc.

That's impressive! Thanks!

I have the Coolaroo raised bed, they are the cheapest I found and do the job fine, the mesh has gone quite saggy and hammocky in the last 2 years of use but the dogs don't seem to care!
