Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / New bitch in season early?

Can't say I have ever quite been in this situation before so could use your imput. I have three adult males at home, one has been used at stud but apart from that they have had little or no contact with bitches let alone bitches in season. I have brought in a two year old bitch with the hope of breeding from her when we are satisfied that she is settled with us. She is due in season next January. Since she arrived two weeks ago one of the males, a cryptorchid, has not left her alone! He can spend 12 hours a day following her around and checking her out. Luckily he is still eating and sleeping. He is due to go in and get the snip but of course that wouldn't dull his interest right now. The other two males have taken no interest in her in that way and since One nut is a very neurotic dog I thought his behaviour may have been more related to his nature than the bitch being near to season.

However this morning all three males are starting to show a bit of interest in her and if she was left alone with one of them (luckily the one I wish to breed her with) she does tend to be flirting with him! Is it possible that this bitch is coming in early because of the situation here? She's previously been running with other bitches and been bottom of the pecking order and suddenly here she is being treated like flavour of the month!

Answered my own question, she's in season! Nanny and Grandad will be having some visiting grandogs!

" one nut" was probably keeping a closer eye as a female in the house was a novelty he wanted first pickings.

My male that I lost nearly 12 months ago started wee tasting[ it was like a human wine tasting] 7-10 days before the first bitch came into season so I started tissue testing them each morning before their first wee of the day. My current male never did this strange habit when I still had several bitches.

LOL! This could almost be describing our own household. I have three entire males (the oldest male, who had a retained testicle, was able to keep the good one) and a bitch of 19 months. All the boys indulge in wine tasting (sorry, wee sampling) up to 6 weeks before she comes into season. She flirts like mad with the the one ball wonder (sorry Weasel xxx) and the youngest, the only one who has been used at stud, and his sidekick are not interested.
