This week has been horrendous for me. On Sunday my 2 year old spayed doberman was not her usual self. She was quiet and drinking quite a bit. No interest in food and vomited twice. She slept most of the day. I was at my vet first thing monday morning. They said she had a temperature and had pale gums. They put her on a drip and gave her antibiotics. I queried whether bloods would be done and they said if she didn't improve after the drip They would be done Tuesday. I took her home but was back Tuesday at 9am not happy with her. I was then told they actually didn't do bloods or xrays on Tuesday morning. That they would be sent away and take 1 or 2 days. I got really annoyed and immediately took my girl to a veterinary hospital 50 miles away. They immediately ran bloods and diagnosed autoimmune haemolytic anaemia. They advised me not to Google it as I would frighten the life out of myself. So off course I did and yes it did. I ring several times a day to see how she is as my dogs never go to kennels etc and are rural dogs. They are treated like children and sleep inside etc so this is so stressful on both me and my poor girl. The vets have said I am welcome anytime but that in their experience the dogs are distressed when the owners leave again. She was due home today but vomited her steroids this morning so must stay tonight again.
This is really stressful and I just wanted to have a little meltdown with people who understand the importance of their dogs.

Poor her and poor you (((hugs))). If you ever want to offload there are plenty on here who are willing to listen. Take care and keep use posted. x

What a horrid experience for you both. Do hope she improves and is soon back home with you all. Don't no anything about her illness so off for a quick google and probably frighten myself to death in the process.

I think the dismal service my now former vet provided is what annoyed me the most. I was told poison though I was positive it wasn't. They didnt seem too bothered that they wouldnt have test results for a few days and said that as my girl is a bit pudgy, she wouldnt die from not eating for a few days. I got cross with them and we had a smashing row which resulted in me telling them to close my account. I have been on the phone all day and spoke to the specialist where she is being cared for and have become a client in a new vet practice. I am a bit of an emotional fool with my dogs and this whole week has just been a nightmare. Paws crossed she is home and eating tomorrow
The CIMDA website was very helpful and encouraging when one of my lot was diagnosed with autoimmune disease. Hope your girl improves x

Fifteen years ago one of my dogs was diagnosed with AIHA. She was put on a very high dose of steroids. I don't know if the treatment is the same now?

My dog has Immune meditated polyarthritis and CIMDA website saved her life. My vet had not a clue how to treat this but with the advice from people on the CIMDA forum, she is making a good recovery. Cannot talk them up enough.
