Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / scratching glass
- By lkj [gb] Date 19.10.13 07:01 UTC
my puppy has a habit of scratching glass.  the first time she did this was on the glass in the back door so i thought she just wants to go out. next though it was the glass door of the oven.   now its the glass of the washing machine.  (my tumble dryer has a solid door).   this is the first dog i've had who has ever done this. has anyone else experienced this?

I wonder if she can see her reflection.

Mine did the same when she was younger, now nearly five months, and she definitely could see her reflection and was attracted to it. Now seems to understand reflections and looks at me via the reflection, but occasionally one will catch her out and she will paw at it and then realise it's not what she thought.

she can probably see her reflection in the oven door and washing machine but not sure about the back door.  i wondered if she just liked the sound.  i have a full length mirror in the hall that she looks in but doesn't react.

It could be reflections generally, not necessarily just her own - large panes of glass and odd-shaped ones will make different reflactions or refract the light differently.

Or she could just be odd :-P  I've caught Willow trying to dig the painted flowers off my dinner plate a couple of times!
