Topic Dog Boards / General / Artificial grass - slippery in winter?

Now that we have added a beautiful, long legged, retired greyhound to our family, we are once again considering putting down an area of artificial grass to replace part of the gravelled area in our garden. However my only concern is that I have noticed that the strip of artificial grass in our local park does tend to be a bit slippery when it's icy.
We want a good play area for Peter, the grey - and for elderly Maggie-May, our lab - but not if they're going to damage themselves in the winter...I'd be grateful to hear your experiences. :-)

I haven't noticed mine is any worse than real grass in the ice/snow. I've had it down for I think 6 winters now and the dogs still play on it, I have sighthounds too. Is the AG in your local park more like astroturf or like the artificial grass I would recommend for house garden, with individual fronds of 'grass'?

The one thing I have noticed is that it does seem to hold onto the ice longer, ice and snow melts off the paving slabs much sooner than it does off the artificial grass.

Thanks. The AG in the local park is smooth. I take your point, we need to buy the stuff with fronds, then.
