General / Can't believe what BBC is showing! Ronnie Corbett animals
Never watched before but it is just an unbelievable episode promoting the cross breeding with poodles and how much more you can get for the crossbreed than if you do a proper mating with same breed!
I am amazed, no mention of health testing and still claiming there will be no moulting!!

I know ,,,, i'm sat here open mouthed !

My jaw hit the floor... What an opportunity the BBC had here to promote responsible dog breeding but this is what they did!! Lets promote the breeding of mongrels with no health testing and why not say just how much money you can make while you're at it!!!! :(

So bad. Made me so mad. I had to switch off. Watching Cake Boss instead.
Grrr.
That woman had no intention of breeding her cocker to a cocker - half the price for pup in comparison to the poodle crossbreed.
Just a ridiculous program from the BBC and irresponsible.
I never watch TV -haven't for years , and know nothing of RC's programme but.. have been pestered on numerous occasions to participate in some Guess The Breed programme of RC involving filming of my BCs. I refused as have no wish for media intrusion in my life but there must be those out there who will do anything for a bit of instafame/media spotlight. Count me out !

There is NO way that 'jasper' is a Poodle, looks Poodle x Cocker, I missed what they said he was but he's not a poodle :(

But its okay, he is not breeding anymore as he has cancer :o :o :o
400 odd puppies later :o :o
They said he was a poodle which I doubted but not knowing much about poodles I thought perhaps it wasn't because he had his coat done properly.
Goodness what people think about spending £1000+ on a dog coat! Especially when today it has been about choosing between heating or eating for some people. I thought I spent too much on my dogs but now have no worries!
I couldn't bear watching it so switched over to another channel :( The BBC won't show Crufts but they broadcast that utter rubbish (thought better of typing the word that I really wanted to use!) :(

I liked the bit where the poodle owner said that all the crosses would not moult. Then there was a shot of a lab/poodle cross which looked exactly like a lab. Now if that didn't moult I'll eat my socks.
Watch last weeks on the iplayer blue frenchies and how many champs in the pedigree. Luckily no mention of how much they cost.
Didn't watch the Ronnie Corbett programme, but the last part of "Wonder of Dogs" propagated the same message, that 'poos and 'doodles are "the future". Very bad, since a) they didn't acknowledge that they all need pure-bred parents as the crosses don't breed true and b) there was (of course) no mention of health testing, just the old rigmarole that "cross-breeds are healthier".
We need some good quality programmes about dogs (and other pets) but the current fare is wretched.

Well I have Whippets & I can certainly say there is no way on this earth I would be spending £1000 on a coat for any of mine. We have a fair few folk who specialise in Whippet coats, as they are not flat in the topline. They are £25-£30 & most far outlast the dog. I have some here made for my Jilly right back in 1988ish(she was born in 86). So even at £30 I could buy 33 for that £1000!!!
I am watching (ish), the repeat now & am stunned at some of the rubbish that is being stated...joe public will think its all correct, thats the worse thing!!!

The poor whippet's body language!! Lovely dog too such a shame.
Lexy, could you PM me where you get your whippet coats from? Want to buy a new one for my Mum's whippet (her old wax one could walk itself now, really needs throwing!) would be nice to have a recommendation.

Saddest part for me, my non-doggie husband turned to me and said 'you know in 10yrs time pedigrees will be the exception, everything will be a bloody doodle' I so hope he is not right :( I love my poodles and hate what is being done to them :(

Has anyone found a feedback button for that programme?

Part of a long reply to my complaint from the BBC.......
"Jasper the poodle stud featured in episode four is estimated to have sired some 400 puppies. Some viewers have expressed concern that this seems exploitative, but to put it in context, bearing in mind an average litter size of six puppies, over the six years or so that Jasper has been a stud he has perhaps mated once or twice a month. The programme makers were assured that this would not be stressful for Jasper.
Jasper's owner is a responsible breeder and is a co-founder of the UK Labradoodle Association which imposes a Code of Practice on breeders which largely regulates on the health of the breeding studs, bitches and the puppies. She is also a Cockapoo Club Approved Breeder which similarly has a Code of Ethics and a mandatory health screening of animals.
Some viewers have noted that at one point an owner hoping to mate her dog with Jasper stated that the resulting puppies would not moult, when in fact there is no guarantee that this would be the case. The programme makers took the view that most viewers would realise she was outlining the potential benefits of mating her cocker-spaniel with Jasper and that the examples she gives were a best-case scenario."
Well that's all right then.... :-(

Yeah right, so everyone watching the program perfectly understood that health testing had been done and that some of the resultant puppies would actually moult. I think not somehow.

I am sure the level of use of the dog will not have been stressful to HIM!!!
It's the fact of the number of offspring from one individual, which cannot be good for any gene pool.

Such poor attitudes to breeding:( I spied on the program ob benefits andproud the woman with 11children had 3 dogs and one the labrador was heavily pregnant and had the belly of a dog that had had a few litters :( so sad.

What a load of rubbish in the BBC replies -no surprises there.
Jasper's owner is a responsible breeder and is a co-founder of the UK Labradoodle Association which imposes a Code of Practice on breedersA VOLUNTARY one, no less! And only if you want to advertise on their website!
http://labradoodle.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=6560She is also a Cockapoo Club Approved Breeder which similarly has a Code of Ethics and a mandatory health screening of animals. Mm, yes and I quote:
ONE PARENT MUST BE DNA tested CLEAR for prcd-PRA eye diseasewhereas the KC AB have as requirements for Cocker Spaniel annual eye testing, DNA testing for prcd-PRA AND DNA testing for FN, requirements for American Cocker annual eye testing and Gonioscopy eye testing, for Toy and Min Poodles annual eye testing and for Standards annual eye testing and hip scoring. That's not even taking the recommendations into account, just the requirements you cannot register pups without if an AB.

The BBC is sending out the standard response to all the complaints, I suggest if people want to take it further, they complain to Plum Productions, the company that produced this series.

Or how about writing to the BBC's "Points of View" programme.

Or both, and even Watchdog, after all, the claims of hypoallergenic puppies is completely unfounded.

And next week, we have the privilege of finding out what breeds are in Ronnie Corbett's dog, Baz following a DNA test. This is after Caroline Kisko told him this week it was most likely schnauzer and collie. What are the odds schnauzer isn't mentioned and he's 75% Andalusian Stoat Terrier?

Yep after the other programme's Rat terrier claims this is what I said as well! Have to say though, I like how sceptical Ronnie Corbett is of everything different! (And we keep wondering whether Baz wouldn't come round to him quicker if he took his hat off!!! A hat can be so strange to many dogs and he wears his even indoors.)
