Hi all, I am considering getting some frozen semen from America. I have never used frozen semen before and would like some advise on recommended vets etc. I am starting to think against it as the vets I wanted to use (croft reproduction) the vet has left and they no longer do it. Any advice is much appreciated.

Louise who was at croft is going to be practicing from Calder vets at Dewsbury I believe
http://caldervets.co.ukKeith Shea at Fit and fertile has also got a partnership arrangement with a vet in Warrington - Keith does the semen side and the vets do insemination work see

Thanks for that, I will contact them both. :)

What area of the country do you live? There is a brilliant AI vet in Surrey. I recently sent semen from one of my dogs to Australia and he made the process so simple.

I don't think many would criticise the vets who collect and ship frozen semen OUT of the UK.
Getting bitches in whelp from overseas semen has a very poor success rate in the UK
simply because the science of AI is so far behind many other countries.
So many failures ....costing so much money.

Hum .... Have had many a tale of poor semen being shipped out of uk due to poor handling/ processing techniques. Fortunately the vets in America and Australia are very skilled and cant tweek and fiddle and still get litters.

Sorry, I didn't mean to stress just the exporting of semen, he also impregnates bitches from overseas semen. A friend recently had a lovely litter from imported semen that he implanted (from the US).
On the topic of semen from the USA has anyone imported semen in the past 12 months or so? Got two sets of conflicting import regulations from DEFRA on it.

Ask Rubysmum as she did it. Her pups from the first AI litter in our breed, with semen from the US, are about 7 or 8 months old now.

We have had three AI litters in my breed in the UK and I think the same vet did all three litters - Gil Simpson.
Thanks do u have any contact details for Gill?
