My 9 yr old Briard bitch has been suffering with what was termed seasonal allergies for the last 3 years. Grass, pollen, including tree, are suspected but on the advice of my vet, whom I trust, we have bypassed having allergy testing done as he feels that they are not accurate enough to pinpoint the exact cause of what is bothering her. She has been given a medicated wash on a regular basis, short courses of steroids when it has become unbearable for her. I have had her coat clipped right back to keep her comfortable, rinse her off after every walk, you name it, we have probably tried it. Lots of treatments have been tried that are far too long winded to go into here.

Her skin is hot, smelly and her eyes are now crusty, as if she has conjunctivitis. Vet has looked at her again this week and given antibiotics as her skin is beginning to break :-( We have been down the natural alternative route, homeopathy a few years back, vitamin powders etc, currently using a herbal wash that is rubbed in and left on her skin twice a day. I know that we can never completely resolve this issue but I need to give her some relief as this is the first year that she is continuing to suffer right into October. I know that the weather hasn't been helping.

I have found someone who does hair testing, I've heard good reports about this man so I have sent some of her fur off for analysis. She is purely raw fed and I give apple cider vinegar in her water plus she also has collodial silver in her food.

I was at the vet today with one of my others and picked up a leaflet advertising Yemega plus, reading the leaflet it sounds like it may be worth a try as we really have nothing to lose other than more money. Has anyone used it, if so, what did you use it for and did you see any improvement, particularly in itching?

Tried the hair testing and remedy which made no difference and just last week started him on Yumega Plus and also Resist from CSJ
I'm hoping this forecast cold snap will bring some relief

This may sound a little off the wall, but have you tried giving coconut oil? A teaspoonful a day 1/2 am, 1/2 pm.  It can't hurt, and even if it doesn't help the allergies, it is wonderful for skin, coat and general vitality.  Get the cold pressed organic virgin oil. I buy from Amazon (Bionta).  All my dogs have loved it too.   You can also use it topically on irritated skin, but not where they can reach to lick it off, esp if they do like the taste.  Good luck.  BTW I would give the Yumega a try.

She has been on the organic virgin coconut oil for 4 months now, I give her a desert spoon twice a day, also bought it from Amazon ;-) I was recommended this by someone who has similar problems with her dog but unfortunately I haven't seen any improvement in her but it has worked well for my pup ;-)

Oh, sorry to hear it didn't work for the allergies, so hard to deal with. I hope you find something that helps, I would definitely try the Yumega.

I haven't used it myself but the two people that I know who did stopped because it gave their dogs dire rear. :(

That actually wouldn't be a bad thing as she does sometimes need something to get her moving, as she has got older everything has slowed down, including her bowel.

As I replied before, I've just started using this and Resist for my itchy collie, probably less than 2 weeks now.  All itching has completely stopped and skin is no longer inflamed.
More than likely down to the drop in temperature but I'll keep using it just in case lol

I haven't bought any yet as I am still waiting for the fur test results, although I am not optimistic I will see it through now that I've paid for it. As you say, a change in temperature is probably going to help but my bitch is still scratching slightly. I will buy some within the next month and post on here after a month of use to report the outcome as it may be useful for others...

I'm reading and posting so I will get updates.  My boy is on Atopica and we will soon stop altogether for the winter.  My Vet is one of the few certified homeopathic Vets but he does not recommend homeopathy, or allergy testing.

Atopica is a lesser evil than prednisone but if we could find something to get off of it that would be so great.  I have my doubts, which is not a good way to look at things, but if people report success with Yumega it's encouraging.

I sympathise with you. My vet didn't recommend any sort of allergy testing for my bitch as he feels that these tests are an expensive waste of time and are not accurate enough to pinpoint the problem and he actually lectures at Glasgow University on this type of thing.

We have also been on and off prednisone and I personally hate anything steroid based. I think that we have exhausted virtually every avenue all barring the fur tests. By comparison this test is fairly cheap and I am really starting to feel nothing ventured nothing gained as she cannot continue like this. Even her eyes are crusting and weeping now and although we are using vet prescribed eye drops, not only are they not working but we are not actually getting to the bottom of what is causing her discomfort.

I appreciate that allergies can never really be cured, more managed and it does make an owner very cynical of so called "treatments" but I am hoping that Yumega may contribute to her well being rather than curing her alongside, hopefully, other treatment and maybe changing food, cleaners etc.

My Shih Tzu got dry skin a good few years ago after moving to Hills Science Plan prescription diets for bladder stones. He gets big flakes of dry skin on his tummy and thighs.The best thing for this is Yumega, it was recommended to me by a friend and has worked really well.
