My 16 year old lab pup seems to have dandruff. We feed him Eukanuba puppy and junior large breed as recommended by the breeder. Could this be the problem? Should we look to change his diet?. Someone mentioned to add a teaspoon or sunflower butter in with one of his meals each day which will help his coat?

Can anyone help and has anyone had experience of this at all?

Hi Guest, it could be diet related. Is he 16years old or 16months or 16weeks old? If he`s 16yrs old I don`t think he should be having puppy/junior food, so think you`ve made a typo error. Could you register with us so you can give us more info, it`s free & only takes a couple of mins.

My 4 1/2 month ols lab pup seems to have dandruff spurts, not all the while but occassionally if you know what I mean!!
Luckily it was one of these times when he visited the vets for his final injection, so I asked about it, the vet said it's quite common in pups, changing from puppy fluff to adultish hair and told me to keep brushing !! So iam ! Also I noticed at puppy training there is a 6 month old black lab(mines chocolate), we had to do an examination of ears eyes feet etc and swap dogs, of course I went for my fellow lab, and noticed he had dandruff too. I think sometimes when they maybe get over excited and hot it seems to come to the suface more! Someone told me a teaspoon a day of cod liver oil is also good too not only for coats but bones etc!

My boston's get like this sometimes and I would give them a bath with medicated shampoo ($9.99) and then after their bath I would take canola oil and rub it all over their body (works like hand lotion for us), and dandruff gone. I have not had to do this now for a long time and its been over 6 months. Just remember a little goes a long way.
