Topic Dog Boards / General / define the working breed...why do we have a working group?

Im doing my level 3 diploma and have been asked as a little homework to explain why we have a working group..define it..ive written a quite clever piece but wondered if you guys could give me a little more??

It is basically all the dogs that had a job to do that did not involve hunting.

This group was further split into Working and Pastoral, the Pastoral being all herding and flock guarding dogs, and Working the rest.
