My nearly 3yr old Std Poodle bitch was spayed on 18th September so three weeks ago, recovery was fast.  Suddenly within the last few days she has become extremely food obsessed to the point of stealing. She can jump onto any bench (so I have discovered) and this morning along stole toast with marmalade, the other dog's breakfast (she'd already eaten her own) and was in the process of getting into a bag of dog treats when she was spotted.  I know this is all entirely my fault because previous to this she was 100% reliable around food, we could leave a plate of food on the table and she wouldn't touch it.  We will of course hide and remove all sources of food from now on.

My question, did the spaying cause this?  Is this usual?  She is raw feed, tripe or fish for breakfast and chicken on the bone for dinner.  When fed she used to look at it, maybe eat it but usually walk away and come back an hour later, she was a take it or leave it girl.  Now it's eaten immediately and looking for more!

Spaying alters the metabolism meaning that in general they need around 20% less food, but often the appetite stays the same or increases, so yes quite usual.

Yes quite normal unless you have a Lab as you can't really see a difference as they are born gannets !
