Health / Small bleeding/broken skin area on head - 2nd time in 6 week
My pup now 6mths has a small area on his head(between his eyebrow area) that the skin has just surface broken again, like little tiny pin pricks of broken skin. I have caught him scratching it a couple of times but now it's very lightly bleeding.
This is the second time in about 5-6 weeks and last time the vet wasn't sure what had caused it but he needed antibiotics as it wasn't healing. On that occasion it looked liked it was spreading and it was lots of crusty little scabs rather than just one big one.
It did heal up nicely and I thought that was the last of it until I have just noticed a pink tinge on his forehead and it looks the same thing. Last time I did put advocate on him as thought of flea bite but he's not scratching any where else and I have just re done him in case it's some other parasite.
Have cleaned it with weak hibiscrub and put eumovate on it to help stop the itching. Not sure whether to go the vets yet.
We have two shows this week, and the advocate smells!
Any ideas of what it could be??
Like thin pink blood, not pouring or anything but you can see it when you dab a cotton wool ball on it. It's not constantly leaking and not sticky.
if he has recently been hand stripped in that area it could have created moist dermatitis, I had this problem a few weeks ago and got some amazing tips and advice to help clear it.
Otherwise, is this the spot where his head touches his water or food bowl? Strange, but years ago I had a girl who was allergic to plastic and her head became irritated at the exact point that it touched the bowl. I swopped to stainless steel and the itchy patch never returned.
it could also be a dermatitis caused by pollen or other allergen, this can be quite common in younger dogs in the Spring and Autumn.
I found Aloe Vera gel (pure) to be fantastic for my girls skin problem, may be worth a try.
He isn't hand stripped or clipped and his dish is stainless steel as he eats plastic ones!
I did wonder about a bite as he was running through heather yesterday but its odd it's the same place as before. Doesn't seem to be any swelling but is like a dermatitis or eczema.
Calendula cream was something suggested to myself a few weeks ago, It was fantastic stuff and worked very well to help my pups sore patch.
sounds like wet eczema/hot spots to me. google should provide better info than i can of treatment etc. :-)
