This is a fab topic!!
I have a boy pup coming home in a couple of weeks and for about 20 yrs I have waited for this certain dog(breed, sex, colour all perfect) and I have had a name in my head this entire time.  Well, once I've seen/picked him, the only name that comes to mind is 'teddy' and I'm livid!!! This is nothing like the masculine, grownup name I had in mind!
Maybe I'll find him another through this thread.....
PS  I love Wookee...he's another that looks like one but not a Briard.
- By mcmanigan773 [gb] Date 19.09.13 16:54 UTC
I wanted to call my youngest Teddy and then when he was older 'Ted' as it was more mature but hubby wasnt keen!

I microchipped a springer spaniel called Jerry the other day! It wasn't until a week or so later when I mentioned 'Jerry Springer' to my sister that the penny dropped!

>now I've written them down and reading them back to myself i've realised just how ridiculous they are

Hey don't beat yourself up about it!  I have hundreds of dogs and each of mine have their own song.  I sing this song to let them know dinner is ready.  They are all pretty dopey made up songs.  Oh, and I'm tone deaf.  Willfee poos loves his song, and wags like mad when it's his turn for a song.

I guess the worst embarrassment I felt was when I went to pick up a Bearded Collie who had been in for a spay.  Went up to the counter, and it was someone new so they didn't know I'm slightly eccentric.  :-)  She said "Can I help?"  I said I'm here to collect Cassie Gumdrops.  Just caught myself in time before she was given the rendition!

We have a whippet pup , called BANG , our daughter named him and as he's hers she got to choose , we tried always to convince her to change it but no he is called Bang , the vets couldn't believe it when he went for his injections . I think she got it from seeing a friends dog play dead when they say Bang!!
- By Jodi Date 20.09.13 09:28 UTC
Sunny - Sundance, Sunshine
Cally - Cals, Cally-dog
Tora - Tora-Dora, for gods sake come here

One of my hens is called Cackypants ( I seem to have a poo theme lol), she's been to the vets a few times in her long life, and it never fails to crack Angus the vet up every time.
- By GldensNScotties [gb] Date 20.09.13 14:04 UTC
One of my dogs was given a "human" name by her breeder and when she arrived at my house nobody could come up with anything better so we kept it. A few years later my brother began dating a girl with the same name, so to avoid confusion we started coming up with nicknames for the dog. She is now called Froo (unless she's in trouble) and nobody has any clue where it came from.

Mmmm!  Would say I don't know who you mean, but you already know that I would be lying.  :-)

Haha, glad I'm not the only one whose dogs have songs!
Little Ripley (aka Bean) has loads of songs, her favourites are The Grand old Duke of Bean and Twinkle Twinkle Little Bean.

Vic's song is just my OH singing oh VickyPoos to O Christmas Tree over and over again. Rigsbys song is the theme tune from the old GummiBears cartoon because he does always bounce everywhere, his nickname is Gummy for the same reason.

Vics nickname is Lord Vicory Poopington Smythe (more of a title really!) and he is also called Lumpy because he is so boney and horrid when he sits on you.
- By Celli [gb] Date 23.09.13 14:12 UTC
All my dogs have had songs lol, the downside is, when they are gone, I can't listen to that song without crying !
Lovely Day by Bill Withers is a particularly tough one, this was one of Spud's many songs, and I well up every time it comes on the radio.
Embarrassingly, Spud also had his own made up song that I would sing to him when he was tiny, The Tissin' and Tuddelin' Song.

When my eldest lad was little more than 2yrs old we took in a little poodle x and he wanted to choose her name. He chose helicopter!! we compromised and called her heli lol.  Roscoe is called the spoilt brat as thats what he is lol And Kira when going through that horrible gangly stage was nicknamed the ugly bugger that then got shortened to ugly bug and finally u b which even now she still answers to even though she did finally turn into a pretty girl.

I have seen in the recent BRS a dog named Sir Poopalot (I kid you not) this dog *may* be destined
to be shown too (normally the people only show at open shows)...

Hopefully it may have a 'normal' pet name....
- By colliepam Date 29.09.13 17:38 UTC
I once knew a little peke called "buggerlugs"!Imagine hollerin that across a field!Had to laugh at poor Sir Poopalot,My Max used to be called Mr yapalot,or yapcity, but they were strictly private nicknames!I learned that after i gave my first collie ,Robin, nicknames, and after calling him back in the woods one day, heard an incredulous girls voice say "DOBBIN???" !
- By hairypooch Date 29.09.13 18:05 UTC
Have to laugh at the name "buggerlugs" - my Scottish Father calls ALL dogs this, regardless of name, sex or temperament :-D
- By Jan bending Date 29.09.13 18:50 UTC
My Scots father called us all 'buggerlugs ' !
- By Lacy Date 29.09.13 18:56 UTC
'buggerlugs' is one of many nicknames of our two.
- By Tyddhound [gb] Date 30.09.13 09:29 UTC
My Husband wanted to call the Stud Dog Endaway.....I squashed that idea straight away!

On another note....I used to love the song Bimbo when I was little....I would stand by the record player singing along to it, and can still remember some of the words to this day...how sad is that!
- By JeanSW Date 30.09.13 10:51 UTC

That brings back old memories.  :-)  I remember sitting on my fathers knee when I was a little girl, and he sang that song to me.
