I intended to breed my bitch this week.
On Monday her PGT was 13.2. (day 13)
Therefore she was bred to the stud dog on Thursday and Friday. Both had good ties, on friday she let him mate her though she did growl a number of times at him
Today (sunday), we are out walking, on a lead, when we were approached by a number of dogs, while i a trying to get them away from the puppy with us, she was mounted by a black lab, the black lab stayed mounted for approx 4 seconds before i pushed him off. She just stood there with no growling.
Initially i was not too worried, as i was under the impression that the dog had been "done", but when we got home I noted some mucus like fluid around her vaginal entrance.
Now I am absolutley kicking my self, I have been on, all week to my husband about being careful while out and this happens.

What do people think? Do I have cause to be worried?

A dog which has been castrated can still mate a bitch & she can also let a tie occur. Depending on how long ago he was castrated can depend on wether he can sire a litter(tie or not).
Personally I would not have been taking her out on walks, anywhere males can be, for the very reason you have encountered!!!
4 seconds should not make a get deal of difference but you must be more careful where you go on walks & when.

I certainly don't take my bitches out when in season.  Big mistake.  You could easily end up with pups from different sires in the same litter.  It only takes a nano second.  :-(

I think i have just learnt that!!

I never used to take her out, but she is used to 2 hours daily walks and she was climbing the walls and a little heavier by the end of her season time, will have to do some energetic play in the garden instead.

I caught up with the other dog owner this morning and the dog I was worried about was castrated years ago.

I walk my in season bitches, but only road walking city streets, where no dogs have any right being off lead. 

I do of course walk all six together and that is enough to deter a loose dog that we might encounter. 

Have to say we never do as it is so expensive to get a dog back from the council owners take good care to keep their dogs secure.

I'd never take the risk of taking them near open spaces.

You have really dodged a bullet there.

Had the dog been entire, it would have meant taking DNA samples from both parents of the planned litter, and all the pups to prove which were correct.  That would have been £25 for each plus vets costs for taking samples.

Scary! Glad you got off safe this time. Another reason why I don't want unspayed females! :)

As the owner of a dog I'd have been furious with you.  You not only risked her health but that of the dog.

I think you were very lucky in more ways than one this time around...
