Puppies born by c section on sat night.
They have been top and tailed fine until last night. All 3 are weeing fine. No poo
Though and wiping them with damp cotton wool is making them sore.
Mum is licking them but when they pooed was spitting it out. There is no sign
They have been. Now if I wipe them they are all crying.
Any advice as to if I can do anything to help them?

All are gaining weight and are not moaning in general

There shouldn't be any sign of poo's at all, the dam will take care of everything, and you won't see it, you should not be needing to clean them or initiate toileting if the dam is there. I would leave the dam and pups be now. :-)

Is Mum drinking plenty, I give goats milk/chicken broth because they don't take water in large enough amounts to feed the pups as well as stop her becoming dehydrated.

I never saw any wee/poo till the pups started solids and Mum was spending less time with them.

Are the pups gaining weight?

mum isn't drinking as much as i would like, am even putting water in her food.

she was licking them and if they pooed she wold spit it out, she took a while to come down from the anesthetic which is why we where having to top and tail the pups and bottle feed them as her milk had all but dried up.

The pups are gaining weight, are lively when awake, twitching nicely when asleep and feeding at every opportunity now she has more milk down. She is licking them again but not gagging like she was, which is why i am not sure they are pooing.

I will get some goats milk today and the chicken broth is it homemade? or do you give canned? would be worried about salt content.

I boil chicken[ cheap range from supermarket and pick out the bones when cooked] for the Mum and strain off the liquid and give when cool, I water it down if it is thick so it lasts longer.

You can get Goats milk in long life these days which can be stored in a cupboard till opened, I also give it to the pups when weaning.

I always soak the dry food really well, to encourage water and food intake as their mouths can get sore from cleaning pups.

With an attentive Mum, I too would not expect to see any sign of puppies pooing, until at least two weeks.

well  I was right to be concerned, all puppies had a trip to the vets and where very constipated. They all had liquid paraffin put into their bottoms. I was advised after the history of the birth etc that it would be an idea to make sure that I bottle feed them a small amount of puppy formula twice a day and to take over the cleaning process, and a small amount of cool boiled water. Seems that although mum has milk its not the best. Coupled with her not drinking as she should be (we have reverted to squeezing water into her mouth from a water bottle).

After an hour of being home we managed to clear all of them out. So far so good they all are feeding and pooing well again.

as for her eating,she will only eat if we hand feed her in the whelping box, otherwise she tips it out and throws the bowl.

My guess is if she isn't drinking as much as you are expecting this could be because the demand for her milk isn't as it should be, if pups were feeding 100% from her she would up her intake on food and fluid.
How do the vets know her milk isn't up to much?? If she is feeling better and more attentive to pups perhaps reduce supplementing them. More demand for her should encourage more production.
Constipation will be caused by the formula milk, same with human babies really.
Although it can't be helped sometimes and is needed, interference away from what should naturally happen will cause some problems.
She may get her appetite back soon, I had to hand feed and give softer food, their mouths must get sore from washing their babies all the time!

Our breed can be difficult moms. The thing is until you mate them you don't know how they are going to be. So will need to stick to doing poos for them until they start doing it themselves.

For our first litter we couldn't have had it any more difficult..Its a learning curve. How so many people can churn out puppies and don't have a care in the world is beyond me! I am a nervous wreck lol.
