My new toy poodle does not have a curly coat it is more fine and wavy. when i brush her it goes straight and stands on end though quickly goes back into waves.I know they can change colour but will it turn more into a poodle type coat? She is 6 months and not KC reg. I am wondering if she is crossed, I am not bothered by this as she is sort of a rescue. I am just curious as I have never had a poodle before.

We've had a few poodles over the years, some change coat earlier than others.  Although I've found that the toys we've had have never achieved the wirey coats of the standards.  I certainly give a year or 18 months for the coat to fully mature and what you describe is perfectly normal for the age of the pup.  Also as a rescue there is a probable chance that not great breeding, so not bred for type or coat and there is a chance the coat may not mature.  Really it does just sound like a puppy coat.

Thanks for the reply.A few people have asked what she is and seemed a bit doubtful when I said a poodle. I actually think her coats lovely as it is and I would not be too bothered if it didnt change. How quickly little dogs grow on you.

The coat type may change in time. My poodles coat even changed colour!!
When i picked up the tiny bundle of fluff from the breeder he was brown.
As his coat became more wirey it also changed to black. it seemed to happen in a wave which started at his feet. At one point he looked dip dyed :-)

Poppy has a black head and tail , a brown body with grey hairs along her back. On her vet book it says she is - black so I think this could be blue? I have just been to the vets to have her checked and have put off having her spayed until shes older.

Don't they just.  :-)
As a total addict of the Pastoral Group I adore the Toy Poodles.  They are so intelligent and love training but you can still have a cuddle with a dog on your lap.

Not that I can say I've never had a Collie on my lap!
