Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Pre mate?
- By Sianb [gb] Date 26.09.13 08:43 UTC
Just been to the vets with my male lab and while I was there asked about blood tests for when my girl comes into season, I was told to use premate? As its in house and get results the same day what do you guys think?
Thanks
Sian

Not as accurate.   I used it once and my bitch still missed.

Thanks Jean that's what I thought but just wanted to double check.

For a natural mating with fertile dogs a pre mate should be ok IF your vet is familiar with doing them and they have storage spot on.

I have run serum progesterones in addition to pre mates with my vet to test accuracy and they were really quite good BUT bad storage or poor operator technique can affect result. Given the cost is similar to lab serum progesterone I would use a lab test if possible BUT they can be handy for checks over weekends / BH

Thanks for the reply, the vets did say they have to order it in ax they don't use them much! Think I'll go for lab test just to be on the safe side.
