Hi
I'm taking Bella to the vet tomorrow but thought I'd see if anyone had any views.
Bella (toy breed) had pups nine weeks ago, All but one of the pups has gone to their new homes. Bella has been absolutely fine but she has developed a really runny tummy which probably stupidly I thought may be down to stress, but today I noticed some blood in the poo. She's really lively and eating fine - I've been giving her plain boiled chicken and rice to keep things light. She was wormed with Milbemax at around 6 weeks into pregnancy and again with the pups with panacur when they were 2 and 5 weeks so I doubting a parasite problem?
Also she obviously lost hair on her tummy for the pups but she seems really thin around her chest/neck area too. I'm worried she may be lacking in vitamins? Her normal diet is Burns which she's been perfect on before.
Any thoughts would be appreciated
Thank you

I would starve her for 24 hours to give her a good empty out and then carry on with very small portions of boiled rice and chickenfish. Maybe add a small amount of canned pumpkin or some prokolin paste if you have any...wouldn't worry about the blood so long as it is bright red not black looking.

The loss of coat all down her chest sounds very normal as well.....my bitches always go very thin all down their chest after a litter.

Thank you Ali,   I won't give her any more food and I have some Kaolin Gel the vet gave me when the puppies were a bit loose. I'll keep a close eye on the little madam....

Cut the rice out as many dogs cannot tolerate rice -I certainly have some that can't. One of my toy bitches had pups 28th of Feb and she was almost totally bald all over -literally! And yes the neck in particular. She's only now, after 6 ½ months, getting her coat back. My bitches always look really bald after a litter so I'm another who says that's nothing to worry about. :)

The hair loss is normal. I had to take my bald dog (as in as bald as a chinese crested ;-) ) to the vet at about 5 weeks after she gave birth. As soon as I walked in he said 'Ooh, a baldy dog, how old are the pups?' He wasn't at all surprised at hair loss, though he hadn't seen one as bald as my girl :-) It even has a name, but don't ask me to remember it ;-) The pups are now 3 months old and she has a nice even covering but still has a way to go to get her full coat back.

As to the poo, has she picked up something on a walk? Agree that 24 hour starvation is the way to go though. At least until you see the vet.

Thanks all so much! Really appreciate your help :)
Will cut the rice out and see how she goes (hopefully not on the carpet lol..)

I agree the hair loss is normal, I too called it the 'Chinese Crested' look - my Cavalier girl was so bad on chest and rump you could see the skin!
