Isla is now 16 weeks and she was wormed today, this time with Drontal. This afternoon she has been sick and is looking a bit sorry for herself, but not unduly so. When she was 12 weeks she was wormed with Advantage and also had sickness and a runny tum for about 24 hours. The first time I just thought she had snaffled something she shouldn't and had an upset tum, but now I'm wondering if there is a connection between wormers and her sickness. Any thoughts?

I have problems with my Irish Setters worming, Drontal + just doesn't suit them. They vomit within an hour, so it's a waste of time and money. I have found that Milbemax is much better tollerated by the Irish. However my American Cockers have no trouble with Drontal + whatsoever.

I'd try another brand, my girl as a pup at her breeders they used drontle liquid, but when I had her and my vet gave me the drontle tablets she was sick with in an hour. She had one reasontly (she is now two) and again was sick with in the hour. I do her with milbimax and no problems.

I would never use anything but Panacur 10% suspension on my youngsters.  And wouldn't touch Advantage.

Thanks for the replies.
I've been doing a bit of research and it seems reactions to wormers are quite common, although my other dogs have not had this (same breed). I will try Panacur next time and see what happens. Isla is fine now. I gave her a small amount of boiled rice when her stomach had settled down and that stayed put. This morning she was ravenous and seems as naughty as ever. I also emailed the breeders to see if the pups they kept from the litter had been affected at all, but they have all been fine.

Don't just change brands, but check what the active ingredients are and avoid those brands using the same as the ones she has reacted to.

It's not surprising that some dogs react to worming as these are powerful chemicals.
