Hi,
This is the first full winter that we have had our lurcher.
Now the nights are getting colder I am looking into getting him a 'jumper' to wear overnight. Although he sleeps on a winter tog duvet I don't think this is enough to keep him warm as the temperature drops and he isn't a suitable candidate to have a warm hot water bottle under his bed as I do for my poodle. (not that my dogs are pampered of course!!)
So.... are there any companys you would recommend or avoid? Anything I should particularly look out for or consider?
I was thinking of something fleecy and made to measure so it fits well, probably with legs. maybe similar to this....

I would worry a dog would get too hot in one of those if it was on all night, perhaps something a bit lighter ?.

My dog sleeps in the bed with me at night so no worries about her getting cold then, but during the day, with the heating off, she will get a bit shivery . I made a coat myself with a wool jumper that had shrunk in the wash, I cut off the sleeves and cut a slash at the neck down the chest, as the wool had felted, it hasn't unraveled or frayed, this will only work with pure wool.

Daughter got a couple of different coats from Hurtta, expensive but good fit and great quality, had a polar coat which regularly got covered in mud etc and it washed up like new.

may be the sort of thing but might be a bit too warm.
Think Pima had one to wear if he had to stay in her car in winter for more than 1/2hr (he was a wimp if it was cold) and had a waterproof nylon thing that would fit over the top if he then got out in rain/snow
noooo of course he wasn't spoilt!!!

Those hurtta coats have also caught my eye...I waiting for my new pup to get his adult length and height and will be ordering a couple.
I'm also a sewer so have over twenty dog coats for my two.....for the freezing weather I made some lovely warm coats from pile outer with sheepskin lining...edged with a border they looked great and were very warm .My two sleep on our bed but the winter in question was rigid...these did a great job.
I recently sewed a coat for a greyhound...I was surprised how long she was...80 cm along the spine...that was a lot of cloth!

The forest fleece ones are great, and will be much appreciated by your boy I'm sure.

Sighthounds are designed to lose heat, those deep narrow chests are designed to cool lungs/organs down quickly while running so those with fine coats especially do appreciate a fleecy jumper in winter when a 'normal' shaped dog would be too warm with one.

Definitely go for one made to measure from a sighthound expert like the ones you are looking at, others tend to be far too loose around the chest.

My old lurcher girl loved her pjs, bought off ebay.

I have ordered a short leg polo neck jumper in black and white cow print......my partner is not going to be chuffed when he sees them lol

I bought our whippet some PJs (sleep suit) last winter.  It took him a night or two to get used to sleeping in them but he really did benefit from wearing them.
