Topic Dog Boards / General / can you buy a spray pheromone for outdoor dog toilet
- By Dungonnell [gb] Date 09.09.13 13:11 UTC
I am planning to build an outdoor dog toilet area as I have a perfect bare corner in the garden. I have looked online and have seen the type of purpose built ones made of layers of different gravel medium. I was wondering if there is such a thing as a spray or liquid pheromone for dogs to attract them to a designated area for toilet training?
I had thought of ripping up some puppy training pads and scattering them over the area with gravel but I expect it will blow away.
Anyone got any good ideas for an easy to create outdoor dog toilet?

Forget puppy training pads if you are planning on using them in the house as they will encourage weeing in the house. Much better to be vigilant and take puppy to designated area at all the critical times, on waking, after feeding etc. Never used anything in the house and they soon get to know that outside is the preferred place to go. Does mean you have to on the ball however and react to every sign they give that they need to go but well worth it.

I bought a spray to encourage mine to go in a specific area and it smelt awful and would waft into the house.

Not tried it but there is a thing called a "pee post" which is stuck in the ground and suppose to attract dog to it.

You may be better fencing off a section with puppy panels and put the dog in there each time they go out till they have performed then let them loose to run around, once they got the hang of it gradually remove the panels

They do tend to have favourite places so the puppy panel idea will work best.

just pour a little bit of cheap unpefumed bleach in the area you would prefered used. it is a similar (to dogs) smell to the puppy pads.
main thing is being very quick on uptake and get the dog on a lead to that area every time he needs to go-and praise loads when he does.

Had your problem in March and built an outside flush loo for a dog that flushes to right to the sewer. Works brilliantly. Very cheap to do. Have written an ebook about it plus videos. Don't know if I'm allowed to put the address here but I'll risk it, lol www.dogtoilet.info If that's not allowed my apologies...
