Hi I have a bitch who is 7 weeks pregnant she was treated with Advantage when in season is it ok to use now as I think she may have fleas. I phoned the vets & the receptionst said it was safe to use but still unsure.

The datasheet says: "Use During Pregnancy and Lactation
No reproductive toxic effects have been observed in rats and no primary embryotoxic or teratogenic toxic effects have been observed during the studies on rats and rabbits. Studies on pregnant and lactating bitches, queens and does together with their offspring are limited. Evidence so far indicates that no adverse effects are to be expected in these animals.

I haven't used " flea treatments" since 2004 when my Mums bitch went into be spayed and brought fleas home with her, my pup would spend the night there when I was at work so we Frontlined both of them, since then all my dachsies get a Garlic Oil 2mg capsule daily[ I omit for first 4 weeks of pregnancy as I don't want to risk problems to pups], puppies start getting them as soon as they will take them off the palm of my hand which is usually about 5-6 weeks, they are curious as to what is going on when I shout " who wants a sweetie " and join the stampede to be first in the queue.
