Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Gaiting tips :)

I want to move my hound on a loose lead but he carries his lead low in The ring when I do which may improve as he gets more used to shows but also he is a really happy boy and gets excited if I speed up and tries to full on gallop not trot. Everyone says just keep lead loose, let him go and keep up but not sure that is possible!!! :D tips appreciated on teaching him to maintain correct speed at a trot without running and keep his head higher.

Thing is, even with a sighthound, it is not natural for the dog to move with the head held high - most will extend the neck and lower the head it is the best way to move at speed, carrying the head high does not produce an aerodynamic outline and would put stress on the back and front assembly. Check out the profile of a greyhound being raced.
