Yesterday and today my other dogs are licking her behind.

In the night she was digging and licking herself.

Today she has poo'd more then normal but no diarrhoea and she is still eating.

She was mated the once on day 10 of her season at 7pm on 30/06/2013.

Thanks

ETA

This is her first litter and I'm feeling quite anxious TBH, so looking for some reassurance really. x

They often do lots of little poos the day before or the actual day that labour starts.  I always think of the poos as natures enema to clear the bitch out ready for whelping.

i dont think you ve had the temperature drop yet but its definetley getting close, the licking is also a good sign and your other dogs will be more inclined to lick her as her cervix will be slowly opening it gives off a similar scent to when a bitch is in heat. i always no by my girls by the way they shake, first you ll notice little quivers then a couple of hours later it will get more and more intense where every couple of minutes they will shake. both my bitches when ready to start pushing will cry at the back door in panic to be out with this been her first litter you will probably find she ll do this i normally let them out to stop them becoming stressed and put off pushing i stay with them and each time this has happened as soon as they get out they go on there back legs as though going to have a poo then you will see the beginning of the sac poking out(sorry to be graphic just trying to help) its at this point i move them into the house stay with them throughout and keep re assuring them. with it been her first litter she may whine alot and panic with the first pup, if this happens try and get her to open the sac if she wont do the first one for her and you ll find as shes going along she will get better with each pup, you may find shes great from first off and if she is just leave her to it and supervise throughout. hope this helps and good luck xxxx

Yesterday and today my other dogs are licking her behind.

I sincerely hope your bitch is on her own now with no other dogs anywhere near her -she needs peace and quiet and may hold on as she hasn't got that. I've never seen a temperature drop myself and would rather watch the bitch for signs than keep checking her temperature all the time. By 63 days all litters I've had bar one had already been born.

Thanks for all your replies.

Since yesterday I have kept her up stairs with me, her whelping box is in my bedroom next to my bed. None of my other dogs have been allowed upstairs since yesterday and have only seen her when shes gone out to the toilet, which I have supervised every time. No one is allowed in my room now apart from my OH and I. Once she is noticeably in labour the other dogs will be in the dining room so she can go out to the garden without them being around if she needs too.

Iv continued to take her temp through out today and it has stayed under 100f.

Conversely as with a couple of my most recent girls, they may wish to stay with their friends until actually delivering.

I had one bitch seem to take ages in stage one, and kept asking go out I thought but she just wanted to go back with the others (have to go through kitchen to go outside).

So I now let them stay with the others through first stage if they are not looking to settle in their whelping beds in first stage.

I was hoping to update this thread this morn with puppy updates but shes still holding on!

She has got milk now and had an unsettled night. x

I am surprised she has allowed you to catch her for so many temp checks per day, I tried it with my first litter but only twice a day and after a couple of days had to bribe her to come to me with very strong cheddar or bits of peperami, you wouldn't think a heavily pregnant dachsie could get any closer to the ground but she managed to duck every time I tried to grab her, didn't notice any drop so just watched closely for any signs of labour getting under way.

Any puppy news yet?

Is 65 days normal for your breed? Personally I'd be worried by now as I've never had a bitch go as long as that, most of mine give birth by day 60 -both my breeds.

Dates are quite variable within my breed. My vet is happy to let her go until tomo. I dont know why but I have thought throughout that she would be 3 days late. So thats today. Fingers crossed. Shes fine within herself and pups are still moving. x
