Hi all - my bitch was mated Sunday and Monday - my vet is away and can't give the CHV until next Monday - is this too late?
Hi, I believe the first vaccine can be given 7 to 10 days after mating so you should be ok?

I have found a local vet that can do it tomorrow (Friday) which will be 5 days from the first mating .. Is this too soon?

Any thoughts ? Is 5 days post mating ok or too soon?
5 days post mating isn't too soon. It can be given from when the bitch comes into season and up to 10 days after mating. I usually have them jabbed 24 hours after mating, this year I jabbed 3 weeks into the season, which is almost a week before mating for this particular girl :O ;)

Thanks - she had the jab today - I must say she is very subdued tonight bless her x

So did you just go for it with the mating, or did the bloods suggest that was the right time.
If I remember it didn't look likely that she would reach peak fertility until at least Tuesday?

We went for Monday Tuesday mating - idexx were closed Sunday Monday due to BH meaning we would not have been able to get a fresh reading until Wednesday- Larry at Idexx thought Sun/ Mon - stud was in Iteland so ferry times meant it was mid day Sunday before we got there after a 12 hour trip!
Oh well, up to fate now I guess!
She was very flirty and flagging - who knows!
She is day 21 now and quite fishy smelling I must say, don't remember this with my other girls?

Sounds spot on then, and of course if it is a youngish stud semen should last a few days.
Fingers crossed.
I feel so fortunate that all my long distance matings (most) I have either ben able to stay with stud owner (abroad and Scotland) or leave the bitch with the stud owners) for a week or more.
