I haven't got any tattoo's, don't want any, but I think sometimes they can look ok, but have you seen what Cheryl Cole has done to herself ?. Personally I think it's horrendous. Clever work but yuk.

I really can't understand why she would want to do this :( Personally I think it looks horrific :( I don't mind a single small tattoo on an ankle/shoulder - but I would never have one done and dreaded that my children would have tattoos - thankfully they haven't. I think it is a form of self-harm unfortunately :(

There is nothing worse, IMO, than a pretty girl in a nice dress and a tattoo showing underneath it - why ?? :( They've taken a lot of trouble to wear something nice and the whole thing is spoilt by an unsightly tattoo :(

It's actually a beautiful piece of work. It's strange (for me) but I don't actually dislike it, it's beautiful to look at. I would hate it on her arms or legs but where it is she can get away with it. I guess as it says, she has had such a large tattoo to cover up previous tattoos, at a guess perhaps reminders of her ex? So maybe she just wanted to cover the old ones up. At least it is a nice subject, but I hope she stops now, she has enough.

I too wonder what it will look like when she is older, it's not nice to imagine on an old lady. :-D  She can get away with it at the moment.

Great bit of art work,
But all I see is her butt cheeks heading south!!!
As an art work its great a very talented artist. in 20 -30 years it wont be!!!!

> to cover up previous tattoos

She's lucky she can afford to have new tattoos to do this. What's the long term affect on having 'multi' tattoos covering such a large area of skin ?
- By Carrington Date 25.08.13 20:46 UTC
I dare say a lot of people end up covering an old tattoo with a new one much less painful than having one removed which can leave scarring, some pieces have layer upon layer to make them so I guess it is not much different, no expert and only guessing, I just hope that she doesn't become addicted and carries on, anymore and she will really spoil herself.

I don't mind looking at the odd tattoo or a lovely art piece, but all over the body, yuk! Well, I say that, but somehow I don't mind David Beckham, that many on anyone else and it would turn me off, but somehow he looks great, blinded by a handsome face no doubt. :-D

In a few years time, they all fade to dull black & wishy washy blue.

I don't mind David Beckham - but with his clothes on :) :)

:-D

It would have been better not so high, after all her bottom would rarely be on show, and would look like part of a bikini at the beach.

Thing is without twisting round to look in a mirror how can she enjoy seeing it?

Yes, but such a lovely face.  Sigh........
- By LJS Date 26.08.13 08:38 UTC
I am with you I think it is horrible.
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 26.08.13 09:37 UTC
I think its lovely and I think shes been very clever putting it in a place thats well hidden, especially in old age.
Shes had this tattoo over 6 months and this I the first we know the extent of the coverage and that is only because the tattooist posted a picture on instagram.
It doesn't hurt anybody else so I dont see how people can be offended by it or pass judgement on it.

> It doesn't hurt anybody else so I dont see how people can be offended by it or pass judgement on it

I'm not 'offended' by it - if she wants to do that to her body that is her choice - BUT, most people with tattoos want other people to see them - hence why I see men and women walking around with, often, sleeveless tops on a cool day, showing their tattoos off  :) :) As for passing judgement - surely people with tattoos see them as a 'work of art' and anyone is entitled to their opinion ?? You have just commented 'I think it's lovely' - you have passed judgement :) :) :)
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 26.08.13 17:47 UTC
I passed judgment because the op was asking our opinion. As for the individual I wouldnt dare to tell them my opinion on their tattoos clothing or any other form of self expression regardless of whether i liked it or not.
The type pf people you are describing would walk around like that with or without tattoos :-) my tattoos do not dictate my clothing :-) and i've had them done for me not for anybody else.
"most people with tattoos want other people to see them" is a complete generalisation and untrue statement !!!
- By Daisy [gb] Date 26.08.13 18:31 UTC

> is a complete generalisation and untrue statement

It possibly is - but I doubt you have any real basis to dispute it other than your own opinion which is as good as mine :)
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 26.08.13 19:35 UTC
I've expressed my opinion which didnt bring into it the opinion of others. You're trying to speak for other people without knowing what the rest of the population think about tattoos
- By Daisy [gb] Date 26.08.13 19:48 UTC Edited 26.08.13 19:52 UTC

>I've expressed my opinion which didnt bring into it the opinion of others.

True

>  You're trying to speak for other people without knowing what the rest of the population think about tattoos

I know what 'some' of the population know - which is about the same as you  - so you can't say my statement is untrue - unless, of course, you have some research which can prove otherwise - I will then, of course, agree that I was in error :) :) Otherwise I may make my own assumptions just as freely as you :)
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 26.08.13 20:00 UTC
Hahahaha okey dokes then lol
- By LJS Date 26.08.13 20:11 UTC
Fred's Mum I think you have missed the point which Daisy answered so well, making a judgement is either positive or negative maybe if you understood that you would be more tolerant to people disagreeing with you :-)
- By Lacy Date 26.08.13 20:25 UTC
Had to laugh this morning when 'the tattoo' was being discussed on radio, & someone remarked that it might be a rose now but in years to come would head south & turn into a cabbage.
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 26.08.13 20:33 UTC
"MOST people with tattoos want people to see them" said Daisy
Its nothing to do with whether the judgement is positive or negative, i disagree that she uses the word "most people" suggesting the majority., actually MOST people with tattoos do it for themselves

Go speak to anyone with a tattoo or visit a tattoo artist or tattoo convention and question who they are doing it for
- By Daisy [gb] Date 26.08.13 20:38 UTC

> and question who they are doing it for

I didn't say anything about who 'they do it for'........... I said that people want others to see the tattoo which is not the same :) :)
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 26.08.13 20:44 UTC
Saying that a person has a tattoo to show it off to others implies they are doing it for someone else which isnt the case.I my have not quoted you word for word but the gist was there.
Do you wear the clothes you wear because they are what you like or because you think they are nice for other people to look at??
Does someone have a tattoo because they like that tattoo or because they think others want to look at that tattoo??!!
- By LJS Date 26.08.13 20:53 UTC
Clothes, makeup and tattoos all do one thing make people feel good and also hide people's insecurities.

Tattoos however are difficult to remove and are I feel making a person look very false and in a lot of cases tarty which I think Cheryl Cole is.
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 26.08.13 21:02 UTC
I'm not sure the tattoo is tarty but perhaps having it all across her bottom could be seen as tarty ;-) However, shes had tattoos before and having something that large would have required a great deal of thought and is in a place that can be hidden which I think is wise, especially for special occassions (and old age).
- By Daisy [gb] Date 26.08.13 21:02 UTC
Fred's Mum

I'll put my thoughts simply :)

There are some people who have tattoos done who enjoy looking at their tattoo, but keep it well hidden from anyone else.

There are some people who have tattoos purely because it makes them look tough/outrageous/different to other people.

The majority, I suspect, like looking at their own tattoos but are also perfectly happy, to wear clothes (where appropriate :)) to allow other people (partner, friends, family, general public  - some or all of these) 'see' their tattoos too because they are proud of them (they wouldn't have had them done otherwise)

I can't say what I think any clearer than that :) Nor will I say any more :) It's getting time to put my unadorned, almost elderly, cabbage free body, to bed now :)

I keep thinking she's had a nasty fall on her backside and it's a massive bruise !.
- By PDAE [gb] Date 27.08.13 05:38 UTC
Don't like it.  Looks like the awful wallpaper patterns that most soaps have on their walls these days and Pat Butcher's living room wallpaper :)
- By suejaw Date 27.08.13 06:01 UTC
I've not seen this 'famous' tattoo as yet and not yearning to either.
I'm not a huge fan of them and personally wouldn't get one, I've seen a few tasteful ones on woman which are well hidden and can be shown when the time arises.
I have been on plenty of beaches where older wrinkly woman are walking about in swimwear with large, colourful and quite IMO hideous tattoo's, they honestly don't look good as skin ages. OAP's in swimwear with wrinkly skin and wrinkly tattoos, the worst being those in colour... This is NOT a good look however you look at them!

Friends have small black tattoo's on their lower back, hip area and feet. All look good now but I can't imagine how they will look in another 20-30yrs time, lol..

Each to their own
- By Oldilocks [gb] Date 28.08.13 10:13 UTC
It looks disgusting...bordering on 'self-harming' IMO. Ugh!

Body Graffiti ! don't have any don't want any and so glad my children have never wanted them either.

Overheard two lads talking about girls with tattoo's. They described  them a Slag Tag or a Tramp Stamp perhaps if other young women heard what some males were saying they might not be so keen to have them.
Same goes for the male sex, can't understand why they would want one and the prices are so expensive.
My nephew had a very large one done right down his arm, he was unemployed at the time and I just thought what a waste of money !!!
He would have been far better saving his cash for interviews.
Always gets me when you see these programmes and people are moaning about not having enough money to live on and have been on benefits for years yet they are covered in expensive tattoo's.
Question of peoples priorities really, while people like Cheryl Cole and other Celebs keep getting publicity, you will always get other thinking it is cool to copy them.
My father had one during the war when he was in the army, regimental badge, but he hated it in later life and bitterly regretted getting it done as it faded and lost the red colour it had originally had, so just looked like a blue/black splodge.
He had to keep it covered at work so even in summer always had to wear long sleeved shirts.
Having tattoos that are visible can also have a detrimental effect on employment opportunities. Something that young people don't consider perhaps when they are at university or college.

I've got a lot of tattoos for a woman, probably 60-70% of my body is covered in ink. Today it's 30C (still only winter!) so I'm wearing shorts and a vest top. Fellow students on my Uni course now don't know how to talk to me or how to react around me as I'm challenging their previous impressions of me. Suddenly my clothes are revealing hours of research, blood, sweat and tears.

All of my ink has deep personal meaning to me, it's all been designed for me by my tattooist and has won awards in various local, state and countrywide shows.

Having said all of this I still think Cheryl Coles tattoo is tacky!  It's not in a position that will heal properly, the ink will probably drop out in patches during the healing process and she's going to spend weeks trying not to scratch her bum in public while its scabbing over! I'm not even going to get into the hygiene issues of having a fresh tattoo on her bum.

Tattooing is a lot more socially acceptable than it used to be but good, respectable tattooist won't tattoo someone's bum unless they've got a long standing relationship with the customer. Sadly, as with all industries there are cowboys out there who don't care about anything other than the $$
