I've used a slow cooker for years at home & have now decided that a small one would be good to use in the caravan. I've tried one from Argos but it doesn't slow cook, it boils the food so I couldn't leave it unattended. Next I tried one from Wilkinson & its exactly the same, it boils the food & doesn't slow cook at all. Has anyone used a 1.5 litre slow cooker that actually works? I'm thinking I may have to avoid the cheap ones I've been trying & go for something more expensive. Recommendations anyone?

I bought a small one some years ago from Argos which was fine and on the lowest setting the food simmered nicely. Do the ones that you have tried so far have different heating levels? I would start the stew on high, then turn it down to low for the rest of the time. It's used in the motorhome and I find that if its a cold day I would need to leave it on high for longer or else the food didn't cook so well due to the poorly insulated outer part being affected by the cold.

I have a friend who raves about one she bought from Lakeland - however I'm not sure if it's at home or in her caravan.  Worth a look maybe as £19.99 doesn't seem expensive...

Thanks for the replies & suggestions.

The Lakeland one is the one I was going to try next so maybe I will give it a go if no one else has any suggestions.

To Jodi : The Argos one I have has no settings & within an hour the food is bubbling which my big one (Murphy Richards 3.5 litre) doesn't do at all even on high. The Wilkinson one has settings which I thought might be better but even on low the food boils & burns round the edges. Maybe I should try it in the caravan perhaps it would work better in there.

If all else fails I will just have to take my big one away with us as I know it does slow cook.

Not a slow cooker, but I have a pressure cooker at home which I find really useful.
I've been thinking of buying a smaller one to take camping - has anyone else used one when camping or caravanning?

For slow cookers, I currently have one from Next, its about 3.5 litres, and has 'high' and 'low' settings and 'keep warm'.  I leave it on all day whilst at work and it works well.

Prior to that I had a Swan slow cooker, again it had 'high', 'low' and 'automatic' settings and works great too.

This is perhaps more expensive but it is brilliant.

It is so easy to use and it very easy to clean

I got a slow cooker from tesco. Wasnt expensive and does what it says on the label. Isnt massive (like some) but does my family of 3.5 and would be ideal size for a caravan. Good idea!!

I have just found a recipe for chocolate fudge made in the slow cooker....
