Question - honest answers please
My bitch is still showing progesterone levels of 0.6 - from vaginoscopy vet thinks she will be ready next Tiesday- 4 days away.
She has today showed early signs of a urine infection, which the vet confirmed and has prescribed a course of noro clav anti biotics - I'm now worried whether to go through with the planned mating next week.
Will it effect my bitch / potential puppies ?

I would not think the AB's would do harm.

I used those on a nursing bitch a few years ago.  Until 18 days after mating the fertilised eggs are self contained and not subject to mothers blood stream.

I have used Noroclav on a bitch at the beginning of her season....she went on to have a perfectly healthy litter,

Not unusual for people to put their bitches on Noroclav/Synulox (same thing) at time of mating to prevent infections. I was even once asked to do so with a bitch, by the stud dog owner.

Thanks all.
Would you be concerned about the infection traveling into the womb during mating at all?
I'm hoping the UTI will clear up within the next day or two

She has just had her second dose after a very restless night involving lots of mopping up!

Well, bloods Monday were 0.6 - Fridays bloods were 6.5 - idexx shut over weekend and stud in Ireland - based in yesterday's reading of 6.5 when would you travel to stud??

klb's chart:

0-2 nmol/L Baseline concentrations too early to estimate ovulation
3 - 6 nmol /L Minimum 2 days before ovulation expected however result of 3 - 4 nmol/L may persist for a week or longer before increasing. Earliiest estimating breeding 4 - 6 days but could be longer (re test needed)
7 - 12 nmol/L Minimum 1 day before ovulation. Estimated window for breeding 3 - 5 days but could be longer ( re test recommended)
13 - 18 nmol/L Ovulation impending or just occurred. Estimated breeding window 2 - 4 days
19 - 31 nmol/L Ovulation recently occurred. Estimated breeding window 1 - 3 days
32 - 64 nmol/L Ova have matured, optimal potential for fertility. Estimated breeding window 0 - 2 days
65 - 90 nmol/L Ova have matured but aging, decreased potential for fertility. Breed at once

To convert to reported levels in ng divide the above reading by 3.18

Looks like you still need to retest, as if it were 7 yesterday you were still at least a day away from ovulation and 3 - 5 from mating.

I would not travel until Wednesday if I wasn't retesting, and later after test results if retesting Tuesday with results Wednesday.

Bearing in mind at 6.5 she may have been more than a day from ovulation.

How long will you be staying if you turn out to be too early.
